We’re officially in summer wedding season—the colour palette is dominated by vibrant and pastel hues, mood boards are all about that soft summer look, be it crisp whites and ivories or blush pinks and lemon yellows. It’s only fitting then, that when it comes to picking the perfect wedding cake, it should not only be aligned with the theme of your wedding, but also reflect the season you’re celebrating it in. We’ve rounded up inspiration in the form of wedding cakes that are perfect for a summer wedding, be it a themed one or a bespoke floral creation.
Make the most of florals for your wedding cake
When you think of seasons like spring and summer, pretty-looking blooms are probably the first thing that comes to mind. So, don't hold back on adding florals to your wedding cake, be it fresh blooms, or having them iced or spun out of sugar.
Pastry chef Vahishta Zandbaf, who runs Mumbai-based Tier Nom Patisserie creates gorgeous-looking confections. One of her most recent ones was the wedding cake for Alanna Panday and Ivor McCray’s nuptials, featuring a pastel blue cake with gilded florals, pearls and sugar crystals. It’s perfect if you’re looking for something understated yet eye-catching.
Or, check out this creation by pastry chef Pooja Dhingra’s Le15 Patisserie, which features an ivory buttercream cake with pastel-hued florals for added effect. Simple, but dreamy, we think.
Bunty Mahajan is a well-known name when it comes to creating wedding cakes. Her patisserie, Deliciae, is a hot favourite in Mumbai, and we can see why. Here’s a classic wedding cake in hues of ivory and gold, along with floral accents that make this a standout cake.
For an OTT effect, opt for a tiered cake with statement flowers, like this creation by Delhi-based The Hot Pink Cake Studio by Ipshita, featuring lavender florals and gold trimming around the cake. It's simple and classic, yet makes an impression.
Keep it rustic
If you’re a minimalist bride and love everything rustic, how about going with something as simple as a semi-naked buttercream cake complemented by fresh florals, fruits, and berries? Trust us, it looks every bit gram-worthy. You can replace the flowers with berries and other delicate fruits for an organic, yet earthy appeal.
Contemporary and themed cakes make for a different look
You don't always have to stick to a floral mood board if you're a bride that wants to take a different approach for her wedding cake. These inspired creations that range from contemporary cakes to themed ones, will help you decide.
Chef Bani Nanda of Delhi-based Miam Patisserie is known for her contemporary creations, like this glazed, tiered cake featuring peach and pink accents. Instead of a traditional sponge, you have elements like cream cheese mousse, fondant and shortbread. This cake is all things elegant and contemporary.
Add a touch of whimsy to your wedding cake with this simple yet elegant tiered creation, coupled with butterflies made out of wafer paper and gold accents by pastry chef Shreya Gupta of Essange in Mumbai.
We also love this Amalfi-themed wedding cake that will transport you straight to Italy and its sunshine-drenched coast. So, if you have a particular theme for your wedding, you can tie in your cake's design with that or even use your favourite travel destination as inspiration, one that you and your partner have fond memories of.
