The perfect colour palette for Indian weddings this season

Having an autumn wedding? Here are the shades that work best, recommended by experts.

September and October offer couples the perfect time to celebrate their love by embracing the rich, natural beauty and the warm colour palettes that signal the arrival of autumn in all its glory. For an Indian wedding in the current season, the colour palette beautifully blends tradition with contemporary flair. This season’s popular choices incorporate both deep, bold hues and soft, romantic tones, creating a balanced yet striking palette.

So what are the colours that are all set to take over weddings this month and the next? Brides Today spoke to a host of wedding planners to weigh in.

What are the classic autumn and fall colours?

The season's colour palette typically features rich, warm, and earthy tones that reflect the changing season and its natural beauty. Shades such as terracotta, deep burgundy, burnt orange, and emerald green are especially popular. The earthiness in this palette reflects the foliage, arguably at its prettiest at the time.

Softer tones like blush, ivory, and taupe complement these, adding a refined and sophisticated contrast to the warm palette.

Terracotta and rust: These warm, earthy tones are quintessential fall colours, evocative of the natural hues of fallen leaves. When combined with softer shades like ivory and cream, they add a touch of understated elegance to decor, outfits, and florals. The warmer tones perfectly encapsulate the essence of autumn and are becoming increasingly popular for modern Indian weddings.

Deep burgundy and wine: Shades of burgundy, wine, and maroon offer a sense of luxury and depth. They work beautifully in bouquets, table settings, and even wedding attire, lending an air of drama and romance to celebrations.

Burnt orange: Classic fall shades, burnt orange and burnt sienna capture the warmth of the season, pairing well with neutrals like grey and white, or other rich tones like burgundy or gold.

Mustard yellow and golden tones: Muted golden hues add a touch of brightness while still maintaining a fall aesthetic. They can be paired with darker shades for a balanced autumnal look.

Emerald green: Deep greens like emerald or forest green reflect the lushness of nature and offer a striking contrast to the warmer tones in the palette. These shades work well for outdoor weddings. When done right, there are few better shades than green to emphasise the elegance of an evening.

Nutmeg: A rich brown that evokes the warmth of autumn and works well with bold and neutral accents, nutmeg is a popular choice for fall weddings this season.

Pumpkin spice: Inspired by the cult favourite autumn drink, this shade of orange can create a cosy, seasonal ambience, particularly when combined with a rust, brown, and gold palette.

Cedar: With shades ranging from soft woody tones to deeper, more robust browns, cedar-inspired colours add texture and a grounding element to the palette, perfect for outdoor weddings.
