When it comes to weddings, you typically imagine a lot of fun and fervour, celebrating with your friends along with the couple of the moment. The festivities begin way before the actual wedding day as people gather to celebrate various rituals with friends and family. You think about people singing, dancing, participating in several activities, and binging on delicious food. But when you go alone to a wedding, it may seem a little daunting, especially because most people there know each other well. And while you may find smaller groups to hang out with, most likely they might be knowing each other well too, making it harder for someone who is planning to come on their own.
So, how do you survive attending a wedding if you’re going solo? Here are 5 handy tips.
Ask the bride/groom to introduce you to someone
It will be great if the bride or groom can introduce you to some people of your own age group. Perhaps they have another friend who is coming alone as well or a group of people they think you will get along well with. Plus, it’s always nice to strike up new friendships, isn’t it?
Plan how long you need to absolutely be there
Do you really have to be there from start to end? We’re sure your friend will understand that you don’t know anyone there and you may not prefer sitting alone throughout the wedding. If you can keep it short, make a quick but friendly exit.
Participate in all activities
Don’t let the fact that you don’t know anyone in there ruin the experience of attending a wedding. Remind yourself to enjoy and participate in all the activities. That way, you may as well end up talking to many people.
Don’t push yourself
You don’t have to socialise at a wedding, if you don’t want to. If you prefer instead to sit at a table with a drink and a plate of starters and watch the chaos unfold around you, do it and own it!
Enjoy the food
Now that the formalities are over, you can head to the buffet and get yourself some delicious food. Grab a plate, eat at your will, and who knows, perhaps you might meet a fellow wedding attendee who you can enjoy a conversation with.
