A peek inside Shikha Ramjutan and Moe Dekmak's Indian-Lebanese wedding in Mauritius

An intimate civil ceremony in London and a vibrant three-day Mauritian celebration came together to honour two cultures, two families, and one stunning love story.

When Shikha Ramjutan and Moe Dekmak planned their wedding, they knew it had to be a celebration that honoured every part of who they were—Mauritian, Indian, Lebanese, Londoners, island kids at heart, and ultimately, partners who built a life across continents. What began as a small civil ceremony in London unfolded into a cinematic three-day celebration in Mauritius that fused cultures, traditions, and personal meaning. The Ramjutans and Dekmaks wanted a wedding that felt like them, and the result was a curated blend of tropical energy, elegance, and all things emotional.

The story began in a London town hall on February 22, 2025, where the couple exchanged vows in an intimate civil ceremony attended by 20 of their closest loved ones. It set the tone for the larger wedding that followed, that was lowkey yet deeply meaningful. The bride wore a simple white maxi dress, and the evening ended with dinner and dancing at the groom’s favourite Lebanese restaurant. Two months later, the celebrations moved to Mauritius, where Ramjutan had always dreamt of marrying with her family around her.

Love written across cities

Ramjutans and Dekmak didn’t come together overnight. The couple first met in 2018 at Imperial College, London, where they worked as clinical pharmacists. A year of friendship turned into something more, only to be followed by long-distance when she moved back to Mauritius. What was meant to be a clean break became eighteen months of daily FaceTimes, emotional check-ins, and a steadily deepening connection.

Borders closed during the pandemic, but their bond only strengthened. Finally, in 2022, Ramjutan moved back to London, switching careers and eventually becoming an entrepreneur. And then, there was no turning back. The pair got engaged in Crete in 2023 after a dreamy proposal where Dekmak led Ramjutan through a deck of handwritten revision cards—each with a question from their early days—ending with him on one knee on a secluded beach.

A wedding that celebrated every culture

The Mauritian celebrations opened on April 17 with an Arabian-themed sangeet at the Ramjutan family home—a warm, fairy-lit evening with Arabic seating by the pool and performances by friends and family. The highlight was a surprise dance by the groom and his friends.

The haldi the next day was a joyous expression of island life. Set in the garden of her family home, it mixed Mauritian flavours and vibrant colours with tropical decor, a bangle bar, mojito counters, and food stalls serving local favourites. Guests dressed in yellow, the music was upbeat, and the ceremony ended in the most memorable way: with the couple being thrown into the pool before everyone sat down for a traditional sept cari, which is a seven-curry Mauritian lunch.

The beachside wedding

On April 19, the wedding ceremony took place at Lux Grand Gaube Hotel, where the couple created a fresh, romantic setup with subtle cultural details woven throughout. One of the most powerful moments was their private exchange of vows on the morning of the ceremony—written in secret, full of humour, honesty, and the story of how they grew from hospital colleagues to life partners.

In a twist that set the tone for the day, the groom made his entry not to the familiar dhol beats, but with a Lebanese zaffe, walking in to a classic Amr Diab track. The bride wore a white and olive Tarun Tahiliani corset lehenga inspired by structured Lebanese bridal silhouettes but embellished with intricate Indian craftsmanship, beautifully reflecting both her identities.

A reception with vintage elegance

The celebrations culminated that evening at Château de Labourdonnais, where the couple hosted a black-tie reception. A champagne hour on the terrace, a live violinist, a towering champagne display, and an intimate French three-course dinner created an atmosphere of old-world charm. The playlist moved from Bollywood and Dabke to Sega, Greek, Arabic, Iranian, and R&B—exactly the multicultural, global soundtrack that defined the Ramjutan-Dekmak story.

The wedding, spread across two countries, felt like a love letter to their journey—long-distance calls, shared ambitions, cultural roots, and a partnership built on equal parts romance and resilience.
