What are couples choosing for wedding decor this season?

Here's a low-down on the design choices that will make this wedding season a memorable one.

With wedding season in full swing, expect a blend of timeless elegance with modern, bold designs in decor, as couples create a balance that reflects both heritage and contemporary trends. This fusion allows them to celebrate their cultural roots while infusing their personal style and preferences for the most special days of their lives. If your social calendar is packed between now and the end of the year (and beyond), here are some decor trends you’ll surely spot this wedding season.

Florals are forever

One of the most popular choices for the upcoming wedding season includes floral installations featuring marigolds, orchids, and roses as part of intricate arrangements seen at mandaps, aisles, and reception areas. Other installations gaining popularity include large, vibrant floral backdrops, floral chandeliers, and archways made from natural, organic flowers. Floral chandeliers or suspended flower arrangements are especially popular at receptions, while arches—symbolising new beginnings—are chosen for both the mandap and reception areas. Linen is another area where you'll see floral patterns, on tables, cushions, and draperies, for example.

Minimalism is the new decor buzzword for the wedding season

While traditional decor will always find its way into mandaps, couples are opting for minimalistic designs that focus on clean lines and simple, yet elegant, elements. Gone are the round or circular designs—angular, geometric shapes are gaining popularity, adding a contemporary touch. These acrylic structures, often made of wood or metal, are adorned with delicate flowers or drapery.

Bold colours are beautiful

Bright colours such as royal blue and fuchsia continue to be popular for wedding decor, but red is making a big comeback. The colour chosen often reflects what the couple wears, with the decor complementing their outfits. For brides opting for pastel tones, the decor tends to be more subtle, with preferred colours like ivory, gold, and blush pink. However, pastel brides can also choose bold options like deep indigo and burnt orange, which add vibrancy and depth to the space. Rich jewel tones—such as emerald, ruby red, sapphire blue, and purple—are set to dominate wedding decor, along with metallic hues like gold, silver, copper, and rose gold, offering a modern, fresh take.

Cultural and traditional themes

The current wedding season will see many couples embracing their roots, with decor celebrating their traditions and customs. Rustic charm lovers are sure to incorporate wooden furniture, vintage mirrors, and embroidered fabrics. Heritage-inspired elements like brass lamps, Rajasthani-inspired furniture, and Mughal-style jharokhas (overhanging balconies) are making a comeback. Traditional floor designs like Pookalam and Kolam will be prominent in South Indian weddings, while Bengali weddings will feature brass items. Indian folk art or hand-painted murals celebrating the couple’s journey, their families, or significant moments in their love story is also a popular choice. These options mix tradition with modernity, offering a fresh take this wedding season.

A touch of personalisation

Custom decor reflecting the couple’s story or hobbies continues to grow in popularity and will remain a trend in the coming months. Personalised elements, such as custom welcome boards and themed tables based on the couple’s interests, are in demand.

Memory walls featuring photographs or personalised quotes are a heartwarming way to showcase their love story. Themes with a twist are also popular this season, as couples look to create something unique and are eager to experiment.
