Want Pinterest-worthy decor at your wedding? Experts tell us how.

Dangling ribbons, upside-down wicker baskets, statement light fixtures and more.

‘As is above, so below' is the famous adage, and when you apply it to wedding décor, attention to the ceiling becomes sacrosanct. The answer to impressive details lies in dramatic and striking accents: think statement light fixtures enveloped in vines, loose strings of marigold flowers, or ombré-hued tassels suspended from the ceiling... Hanging installations can go a long way in sprucing up your celebrations.

“To offer an unparalleled, multi-sensory experience to your guests, ‘cascading decorations’ such as hanging origami, tassels, or crystal chandeliers, can be used to create an elaborate entrance tunnel, or placed over the dance floor and bar area,” says Rahul Kumar, director and CEO, Vivaah Celebrations.

The trick, he says, lies in thinking out of the box. “From LED rings to disco balls, whimsical décor elements create a memorable, magical moment worth capturing and cherishing for years to come. These days, couples even have entertainers in prominent costumes suspend themselves via mechanical means, as if floating in the air,” he adds.

According to Jueta Hemdev, co-founder and director, Yolo Entertainment & Weddings, installations with lanterns, dream catchers, and flowers can help instantly draw one’s attention. “Dangling ribbons, foliage twirled around hoops, inverted umbrellas, kaleeras, pom-poms, and silk drapes atop a wedding mandap can add just the right amount sophistication to your décor. DIY paper flowers stuffed in recycled glass bottles, and vibrant kettles hung from the ceiling also make for an eye-catching, sustainable feature.”

Choosing the right hanging decorations—in accordance with your event theme and colour palette—can enhance the ambience of the venue. “For instance, if you’re hosting a tropical-inspired wedding, incorporate palm fronds and leaves with hanging parrot or toucan figurines to elevate your setting. Customised photo frames, oriental woven rugs, and strings of cowry shells can also accentuate the vibe,” she shares.
