How to pick the perfect monsoon mandap for your wedding

The secret is to choose a design that celebrates the season's beauty while standing up to its unpredictability.

The date is set, the venue is finalised, and you have finally said yes to the dress. And yet somehow, the Pinterest wedding you have been planning since 2019 still feels a long way off. Planning any wedding is its own kind of chaos but planning a monsoon wedding is a completely different challenge.

Alongside the perfect lehenga, the right venue, and the seating arrangement that keeps your family's complicated dynamics intact, you also need to think about the one space that ties everything together — the mandap. After all, it's where the varmala moment goes viral, where the photographs live forever, and where the rain, if you are lucky, becomes the most beautiful backdrop you could have imagined.

Clear top mandap

Your mood board says outdoor wedding and the monsoon calendar says otherwise, but a clear top mandap means you never have to choose. Imagine walking down a water aisle toward a stage dressed in the most beautiful floral arrangements, with a transparent canopy above that turns every raindrop into part of the view rather than a problem to solve.

The sky shifts from grey to golden, the rain falls softly above the glass and yes, the whole thing looks cinematic.

The palace mandap

If the vision has always been grand, regal and straight out of a period film, then monsoon is definitely not the reason to scale it back. An indoor mandap that feels like a set design that no outdoor venue could have matched. Think intricate latticed backdrops in warm gold, towering candles casting the kind of light that makes every photograph look like a painting, cascading florals in deep reds and blush that pool at the base of the stage like something from a royal court.

The architecture of the mandap itself adds to the ornate arches and layered detailing, which make your wedding appear less like an event and more like stepping into an extraordinary era.

The pastel mandap

If you grew up watching Disney films and decided that your wedding was going to feel exactly like that, then this is the mandap that you have been waiting for. Soft pastel florals in every shade of blush and cream, an aisle that feels like it was lifted straight from a fairy tale and a backdrop so mesmerising that walking toward it feels less like a ceremony and more like a scene you once dreamed about and never quite forgot.

The oversized blooms, the soft cascading ceiling, the intricate detailing across every corner of the space, all of it coming together to make the childhood dream come true.

Red has always been the colour of love: think red roses, red hearts, and now, red mandaps. There's something wonderfully fitting about saying "I do" under a canopy that wears love's own colour.

This opulent mandap sets the stage for your next chapter with all the drama of a movie moment. Crystal chandeliers catch the light, deep red drapes fall in soft, generous folds, and the aisle is styled so beautifully that your guests will be reaching for their phones before you've even walked in.

A perfect wedding requires perfect weather is a myth. Actually, the most extraordinary weddings are the ones that worked with what they had and found something more beautiful on the other side. The monsoons did not get in the way of any of these weddings. It was the reason they looked the way they did!
