This Hyderabad wedding brought Bihar’s vibrant Madhubani art to life

Aditi Thakur and Akarsh always wanted their wedding to feel like them. Born and raised in Hyderabad, the couple came from Bihar and wanted to bring a little bit of home into their three-day celebrations at Hilton Hyderabad Resort & Spa. The idea eventually took shape through their haldi, which was inspired entirely by Madhubani art, one of Bihar’s most recognisable folk art traditions. 

Instead of using traditional elements as occasional décor details, Thakur and Akarsh decided to build one entire celebration around it. The result felt personal to the couple while giving their guests a closer look at a part of their cultural heritage.

The Madhubani-inspired haldi became the standout celebration of the wedding. The venue was filled with vibrant colours, intricate artwork, and handpainting-inspired installations, creating the feeling of stepping into a living canvas. The theme went beyond the décor, with guests also dressing in outfits inspired by Madhubani art. For Thakur, seeing their loved ones arrive in these looks became one of the most memorable parts of the day. 

The idea was never to recreate a traditional Madhubani setting exactly. Instead, the couple wanted to interpret the art form in a way that blended with their contemporary wedding. Every detail was chosen to tell a story about Bihar and the families that came from there.

The wedding was planned and designed by RVR Eventz & Design. While the haldi carried the strongest cultural identity, the cocktail, wedding, and reception each had their own distinct aesthetic. Together, the celebrations created a balance between contemporary elegance and the traditions that mattered to the couple.

For Thakur and Akarsh, the wedding was also an opportunity to share a part of themselves with the people they love. Their choice to spotlight traditional art turned a familiar wedding ceremony into something that guests could experience and participate in. It brought their families, their shared history, and their Bihar connection into the centre of the celebrations.

In the end, the vibrant décor became more than just a visual theme. It was a way for the couple to acknowledge where they came from while beginning a new chapter together. At a wedding filled with colour, family, and celebration, it was their shared heritage that gave the festivities their most personal touch.
