How Rikin and Sakshi’s Udaipur wedding became a worldwide sensation

From Afro-Egyptian tribal sundowners to Mediterranean-style carnivals, Rikin and Sakshi’s wedding was a masterclass in how Indian celebrations are embracing global inspirations while staying deeply personal.

Indian weddings are in the midst of a global revolution. While tradition remains at the heart of these celebrations, design is no longer bound by geography—and nowhere was this more evident than at Rikin and Sakshi’s wedding at the newly launched Fairmont in Udaipur.

Each event during the wedding weekend was a standalone visual story, distinct in its global inspiration yet seamlessly woven into a cohesive narrative. The festivities opened with ‘Tribal Tango’, a sundowner that drew from Afro-Egyptian aesthetics with wild botanicals, sculptural totems, and garlands made of dried chillies and potatoes. Instead of conventional carpets, guests walked on soft sand, and handwritten postcards layered emotion onto the strikingly raw, textural setup, making the evening feel more like an immersive art installation than a typical wedding function.

The next day, ‘C’est La Fête’ reimagined a European summer carnival through a modern, whimsical lens. Inspired by French artist Alexandre Benjamin Navet, the celebration was brought alive with colour-blocked pavilions, candy-striped drapery, gingham-wrapped bars, and floral carts reminiscent of Mediterranean café streets. The vibrant setting turned a daytime event into a painterly escape, offering guests an experience that was both playful and visually captivating.

Even culturally rooted functions found fresh expression. The 'Myra', often seen as a traditional ritual, was transformed into a three-part experience anchored in a palette of mint and aqua blue, complemented by hand-painted botanical motifs and loose floral arrangements. From a folk-music serenade to a Rajasthani mela and a regal 'Sajjan Goth', each moment felt intentional yet effortless, with touches like a postman delivering personalised postcards adding intimacy and charm without feeling staged.

The wedding ceremony, ‘Gulbahar’, concluded the celebrations on a note of soft elegance. Sage green and pastel pink replaced the usual reds and golds, creating a serene, feminine atmosphere layered with modern floral styling and delicate Indian motifs. The result was a celebration that honoured heritage while looking unmistakably current.

With their thoughtful, globally inspired aesthetic, Rikin and Sakshi’s wedding signalled a new chapter for Indian weddings—one that is as progressive as it is personal, embracing creative freedom that feels both rooted and refreshingly modern. It was a weekend that showcased how design, executed thoughtfully by Design HQ, can transform a wedding into an immersive journey, proving that love stories deserve to be told across many worlds.
