5 movies to “sync-watch” with your partner on your next flight together

Put these on your TBW (To Be Watched) list immediately!

You know it’s officially vacation season when everyone’s Instagram feeds are lit up with brightly coloured photo dumps. And while you plan your next holiday together, there are little things you should add to your to-do list to make the journey more fun and surprise your partner. Here’s a list of five binge-worthy movies you can enjoy on your overnight flight to paradise!

Set It Up (2018)

Desperate for some personal time after their hectic 12+ hour jobs, Harper (Zoey Deutch) and Charlie (Glen Powell) hatch a plan to get their bosses off their backs—by setting them up with each other! What could possibly go wrong? As their matchmaking scheme unfolds with hilarious mishaps and unexpected twists, Harper and Charlie find themselves tangled in their web of romance and chaos.

This Glen Powell and Zoey Deutch starrer is your average cheesy rom-com, chock full of witty banter and awe-worthy New York-esque scenes. The movie romanticises the grind and hustle of the corporate world just as much as warning us before we get too involved, and reminding us to value love just as much as we do our success. At the end of the day, everyone deserves to have someone to go back home to.

Notting Hill (1999)

Notting Hill is a feel-good film that reminds us that sometimes, the best love stories unfurl when we least expect them. And no, the cast, with Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts playing the leads, is not the only reason why this movie remains at the top of our binge-worthy list. The plot, storyline, dialogues, and setting, each is bigger and better than the other. William Thacker’s (Hugh Grant) quaint travel bookstore, and Anna Scott’s (Julia Roberts) mesmerising gaze sell it for us! This movie is arguably one of Roberts’ best romcoms.

PS If you’re travelling to London this summer, don’t forget to visit the IRL version of the travel bookstore, because it’s even more iconic in person, located in Notting Hill itself.

Rough Night (2017)

This classic chick-flick, starring the head turner Scarlett Johansson among others, ticks all the boxes for being entertaining enough for a long airplane journey. The night gets rougher as the movie progresses, and each scene is crazier and more unhinged than the one before. When five best friends from college—Jess (Scarlett Johansson), Alice (Jillian Bell), Frankie (Ilana Glazer), Blair (Zoë Kravitz), and Pippa (Kate McKinnon)—reunite for a weekend in Miami, they expect an epic celebration. Things take a dark comedic turn as the bachelorette party turns into more of a crime scene, and outrageous antics ensue as the friends scramble to cover up their blunder.

We won’t give too much away because there’s nothing that can be said about the movie that will remotely compare to how manic it gets as the plot progresses!

Eat, Pray, Love (2010)

You know those movies that make you question every single thing you’re doing in life and whether you have any idea about what your one day holds? Eat, Pray, Love is exactly one of those. Starring one of our favourites, Julia Roberts, this movie is centred on the life of Liz Gilbert, based on Elizabeth Gilbert’s bestselling 2006 memoir (of the same title). The author wrote a book about the way she found herself through travelling the world and learning its stories, which is exactly what the film illustrates. Traversing India, Indonesia, and Italy, Gilbert discovers what it truly means to be alive, and discovers who she is. She finds herself, love, and belonging.

With stunning visuals and riveting dialogues, this movie is sure to become one of your favourites if you haven’t watched it already. And if you have, it’s definitely worth at least five more rewatches.

Game Night (2018)

Buckle up for a hilarious and adrenaline-fueled ride, as a friendly competition takes an unexpectedly wild turn! Max (Jason Bateman) and Annie (Rachel McAdams) host a weekly game night with their friends, but this time, Max's charismatic brother Brooks (Kyle Chandler) raises the stakes with an elaborate murder mystery party. What starts as a night of fun and games quickly spirals into a real-life adventure when things start to get too real. With twists and turns at every corner, the group must navigate through car chases, hidden clues, and a bizarre cast of characters to solve the mystery and save themselves (from a game?).

Packed with laugh-out-loud moments, clever plot twists, and a dash of romance, Game Night is a rollercoaster comedy that proves sometimes, the best game nights are the ones you never see coming. Ready, set, game on, because this one’s sure to leave you wanting more!

Bon voyage and happy watching!
