Paul Smith's S/S '18 Athleisure Collection Is Pre-Wedding Workout Goals

Paul Smith’s Spring/Summer ’18 collection draws inspiration from 1970s Japanese counter culture, adjoining surfing, music sub-cultures, and the Japanese interpretation of American military clothing.  

The mascot of this collection is the octopus, which occurs extensively across their clothing, shoes and accessories lines, as prints. The mascot is also embroidered onto military-inspired cotton jackets. Colourful graphics of the octopus are featured on the new orange oversized mailbags.

Blue — the dominant colour of the season is presented in a variety of shades, from light to dark, with occasional highlights of yellow and pink.

Functionality of the garments forms the crux of this collection. The new cotton, and nylon shirt jackets have lightweight showerproof layers to them, that come in six different colours. Further colour is added by a two-layer overhead jacket featuring wind-and-shower resistant finishes, that pack away into rear stow pockets. The collection includes sportswear influences in the form of colour-blocked tops borrowed from sports jerseys, striped knitwear, that remind us of the 70s tracksuits and hiking sandals. Denim is offered in a series of washed fabrics and colours. Over-dyed denim adds colour to the collection. The collection further emphasises on the dyeing process, with white checks being overprinted in psychedelic colour-faded patterns. This creates a unique design, visible on sweatshirts, shirts, and shorts.
