DIY lip masks for softer and nourished lips

Give your lips some TLC.

If your idea of a relaxing Sunday is pampering yourself, we have the perfect idea for you—DIY lip masks. These pack the power to hydrate, nourish, and give your lips the TLC they’ve been craving. Not to mention, they are incredibly easy to make with ingredients you’ll find in your kitchen at any given point.

Honey and coconut oil lip mask

Generations have been using honey and coconut oil to hydrate and nourish. They work for your hair, face and lips. And these are two products that you’ll find in your kitchen cabinet. To make this lip mask, combine 1 tablespoon raw honey with 1 tablespoon coconut oil. Apply the mixture to your lips and leave it on for 15-20 minutes before rinsing off. This mask will help hydrate your lips and keep them feeling soft and smooth.

Aloe vera and vitamin E lip mask

If your lips are dry or chapped, this mask is the cure. Extract the gel from an aloe vera leaf and mix it with the contents of a vitamin E capsule. Apply this mixture to your lips and leave it on for 10-15 minutes. Rinse off with lukewarm water. Aloe vera's soothing properties combined with vitamin E's ability to repair damaged skin will leave your lips feeling soft and refreshed.

Cucumber lip mask

Cucumbers are known for their cooling and hydrating effects. And they can be used for more than your eyes. All you need to do is blend a few cucumber slices into a paste and apply it to your lips. Leave it on for 15 minutes and rinse off with cool water.

Rose petals and milk lip mask

Rose petals and milk make a nourishing combination. To make this mask, soak some rose petals in milk for a couple of hours. Then, blend the mixture into a paste and apply it to your lips. Leave it on for 20 minutes before rinsing off with cold water. While rose petals have rejuvenating properties that can help enhance your natural lip colour, milk will moisturise and soften your lips.

A homemade lip scrub

Before using any of these homemade lip balms, it’s good to exfoliate the lips. It softens the lips and helps the mask to get absorbed. To make a homemade lip scrub, mix 1 tsp mango butter, 1 ⁄ 2 tsp beeswax, 2 tsp of almond oil, 3 to 4 ground strawberries and 2 tsp superfine castor sugar or brown sugar. Massage and scrub over the lips.

Remember the basics. Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated as it is key to maintaining soft, healthy lips.
