How a lucky setup and the love for food brought this couple together

A sneak-peek into the love story of Prithvi and Jannat Chulani.

A lucky setup by a common friend, fun dates over Zoom, and many travel adventures later, Prithvi and Jannat Chulani tied the knot in Bodrum, surrounded by friends and family from around the world. Read on to know how it all came together

How they met

“A mutual friend played cupid and brought us together. I was based in Dubai (Jannat is a healthcare marketing strategist), and my husband (Prithvi owns a plastic manufacturing company) was in Lagos. So when Prithvi happened to be visiting in February 2022, and posted it on Instagram, my friend saw it as the perfect opportunity to set us up. We went for dinner a few days later, and it was love at first bite. We bonded over our love for food, drinking and travelling. We’ve been inseparable since that fateful night at the restaurant, aptly called Lucky Fish.”

The next step

“Living in different parts of the world was challenging as we had to embark on the rocky road of long-distance dating. But we kept the energy of our relationship fun and entertaining by planning unique dates over Zoom and getting excited over planning our next adventures. Our most memorable trip, which feels like a dream till date, was when Prithvi proposed in the beautiful wine country of Tuscany. It was just the two of us, surrounded by lush greenery. We both knew we couldn’t wait to spend the rest of our lives together.”

Leading up to the big day

“Wedding planning is not for the faint hearted—it’s hard work! It was months of toiling over finding the perfect place, the perfect planners and all the other elements that comprise a big, fat Indian wedding. Luckily, Prithvi and I are Type A personalities and found ourselves a great planner—Parvy Rakar of Destination Snob—who’s just as detail-oriented as us. We fell in love with the beautiful town of Bodrum in Turkey, with its chic Mediterranean vibe, charming streets and stunning blue sea; it was the perfect backdrop to our special day. We flew down 180 of our closest friends and family from the UAE, Nigeria, India, the UK, the US and many other places. It was the best weekend of our lives!”

Memories that will last a lifetime

“All the stress of wedding planning vanished when we saw our first guests walk into our hotel lobby. There’s no greater feeling than looking around the room and seeing your family and friends from around the world come together to celebrate you. And the feeling is even greater when both the bride and groom’s sides mingle so well together, and the energy in the room is just palpable. Every moment of our wedding was pure joy, love and happiness. Prithvi rented a 20-person yacht and had the coolest baraat with his closest circle. He came to get his bride in style, and that definitely stood out as a highlight of the wedding.”

Advice for new couples

“If you’re with the right person, being married feels like a dream come true. You get to spend every day with your best friend. But before taking the plunge, you need to be comfortable being vulnerable and be unafraid to ask the questions that really matter. Planning a wedding can be challenging, but my primary advice would be don’t sweat the small stuff. It all appears more problematic when you’re going through it, but simply steer your focus to the wedding. That’s the light at the end of the tunnel. Have as much fun as you can while planning because the nuptials pass by in a flash!”
