Foods To Avoid On Your Pre-Bridal Plate

Want to look and feel your best on your big day? Brides Today spoke to health consultants, nutritionists and dieticians on the foods which are a big no-no prior to your D-day.

Your wedding is understandably one of the most important day in your life. Hence, you will surely expend all efforts to look and feel your best. Contrary to popular belief, a bride must feel beautiful from both outside and within. While the external appearance is usually taken care of by makeup artists, hairstylists and beauticians; its of utmost important that you feel healthy and happy too.

Keeping all the brides-to-be in mind, we spoke to Dr Geetika Chopra, Health consultant and Nutritionist, Magic Dietitian; Dr Shikha Nehru Sharma, Nutri-Health Systems Pvt. Ltd and Dr Tina Sapra, a Registered Dietician with the American Dietetic Association, regarding the specific foods that must definitely be avoided before your wedding.

STARCHY FOODS

Dr Shikha Sharma recommends consumption of whole grains instead of starchy foods which can make you feel more hungry and also cause bloating. Similarly, Dr Geetika Chopra advocates a plant-based diet for brides to be. She puts forth that items like white rice and refined flour can lead to the bride feeling low on energy, on the day that she needs it the most! On the other hand, foods like oats, quinoa, jowar and bajra are low on calories and are likely to make the bride feel more fresh and energetic.

EXCESSIVE SALT

Want to fit into your wedding attire? avoid excess of salty foods, says Dr Shikha Sharma. 'Salted nuts and snacks are foods definitely to avoid', says Dr Tina Sapra. Water retention, bloating and swelling should be last on your list of problems on your big day.

EXCESS SUGAR

While Dr Tina Sapra and Dr Geetika Chopra suggest avoiding food items such as chocolate, Dr Shikha Sharma states that carbonated drinks are an absolute disaster before the wedding. They can lead to weight gain and belly fat accumulation; something I'm sure you don't want to experience prior to your big day.

JUNK FOOD

The usual junk food items which are fried, oily and unhealthy, must certainly be avoided, according to Dr Shikha Sharma. Loaded with carbohydrates, pizza, burgers, french fries, wedges, cookies, cakes, chips, etc, are unhealthy fats which can pile up on the body and result in rapid weight gain.

EXCESS CAFFEINE & ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION

As the bride-to-be, it is essential for you to have a good night rest the night before your wedding. While weddings are both magical and memorable, they can be extremely tiring and hectic too, leaving you terribly exhausted by the end of it. 'Too much caffeine can result in disrupted sleep patterns and increased anxiety levels', claims Dr Shikha Sharma. This is something you shouldn't have to deal with on the day you are already experiencing pre-wedding jitters. Dr Tina Sapra and Dr Geetika Mittal also recommend avoiding alcohol consumption as it can cause bloating and swelling. It is best to limit or avoid consumption of the two, prior to your wedding.
