Is eloping a good idea?

Can't decide—yay or nay!

From a sneaky move, eloping has evolved to mean tying the knot and celebrating with just yourselves or a small gathering in a minimal, more casual fashion. But is it as thrilling as it sounds or is it going to give you the chills, we've answered all your questions and laid out the pros and cons of eloping so you can make the best decision for your special day.

The pros and cons of eloping

Pro - Saves money
Eloping can be a terrific alternative if you don't want to spend your funds on a full-fledged wedding feast. We adore traditional weddings, but that may not be the best option for you. Sure, eloping isn't free, but between your wedding clothes and a few other minor elements, you're bound to save a significant amount of money.

Con - You may miss out on traditions
There are some constraints that eloping cannot overcome; certain rituals need a large number of attendants and are absolutely not elopement-compatible. That implies no bouquet tossing, no parent/child dance, and so on. If this is a deal-breaker for you, you should reconsider eloping.

Pro - Less planning and very mobile
Wedding planning is a lot of work! Planning an elopement, on the other hand? A cakewalk. Eloping is a terrific method to eliminate 98 per cent of the work and planning involved in getting married, whether you're short on time or simply don't want to go through the bother of traditional wedding planning. Instead of spending all your money on a buffet for your friends and family, you could use it towards a wonderful holiday to Greece (or anywhere) to say your "I do’s". A destination elopement is just you and your spouse, as opposed to a destination wedding where you have to consider whether or not certain family members will be able to attend, fly to, or finance it.

Con- May cause drama
Wedding is an important milestone, not just for the couple but also for the families. Though you and your significant other may want a more intimate exchange of vows, your parents and extended family may not agree. Even though we believe in doing what is best for you, it would be irresponsible to not note that one of the main disadvantages of eloping is the possibility of upsetting a lot of people. You'd be amazed how territorial certain family members can be about other people's weddings, so expect a few complaints.

Is eloping a good idea?
So, what is the ultimate word on eloping? It depends (as it usually does)! After weighing all of the benefits and drawbacks of eloping, the final conclusion is that no two couples will have the same type of wedding. Some people will adore a small elopement, while others will not. At the end of the day, all we care about is encouraging you to envision your ideal wedding day and making that vision a reality. It is entirely up to you whether or not you elope.
