Celebrity Interior Designer Shares Monsoon Decor Trends to Jazz Up Your Home

From scented candles to cheerful rugs and more, here are some hacks to monsoon-proof your decor.

With the first rains of the monsoon season have already come around splashing, you can get ready for some heavy showers too.

As much as we enjoy the season, the dreaded musty smell and overcast weather casting a gloomy spell are a bummer. So, we spoke to celebrity interior designer Bhawana Bhatnagar, founder of Casa Exotique for her tips to brighten up your living space:

Foot Mats

'Place a vibrant and funky doormat outside the house to keep out the mud and slush that this season will bring in.'

Opt for brighter colours

'I would have suggested brightening up your living room by painting your walls in shades of bright red, blue or even yellows. However, as we are all going through a pandemic, let's just start by packing away your upholstery and furniture that catches moisture easily. Instead, you can use a plain sofa and accessorise it with colourful cushions and throw on blankets for a cosy look.'

Colourful accessories

'Use alluring cutlery and containers along with some fancy dining set. Keep the dining table plain or put up a dinning cloth of a pastel colour, which will help accentuate your food. You can use colourful tablemats as well to perk up your dining experience.'

Amplify your experience

'To enjoy the pitter-patter of the raindrops and the earthy smell that lingers after a shower, invest in wind chimes to enhance the experience. There are plenty of decorative wind chimes available at the local market and you can also buy them online.'

Scented Candles

'Invest in different shaped candles and incense sticks as they can dispel that unpleasant musty monsoon smell. The aroma of these candles is soothing and sets the mood perfectly for a chill-out session with friends and family.'
