The ultimate Indian bridesmaid survival kit

The absolute necessities you have to keep around on your bestie’s big day!

Being a bridesmaid isn’t an easy feat. Arguably, a lot of the responsibility on you to make sure your bestie’s wedding goes as smooth-sailing as possible. It’s almost like an episode of Survival dressed up in pretty flower arrangements and glamorous lehengas. Not saying that it’s not fun, but it can be a bit hectic in the moment. You might have seen many articles about being a bridesmaid, but being a bridesmaid at an Indian wedding is a whole different story. This is exactly why we have curated a survival kit that gives you a checklist of everything you need to ensure your success as an Indian bridesmaid!

1. Safety pins

This might be obvious, but with the number of lehengas and sarees you will be dealing with in the whole week of celebrations, for you and your bestie, you need to ensure you have an excess amount of safety pins. God forbid something rips, or doesn’t fit the way it did before, safety pins are a life-saver. Less is definitely not more in situations like an Indian wedding so keep some attached to you at all times. Better safe than sorry!

2. Mini makeup bag

Whether the mascara starts to run or the lipstick wears off, you should have a mini kit of makeup staples that the bride or you might need. This will avoid the possibility of looking worn out by the end of the night and make sure all the photos look absolutely perfect.

3. Disposable camera

Wedding photographers are great at what they do, but there is a completely different vibe when you take photos of your loved one’s silliest moments on their big day. A disposable camera is perfect for a wedding because the moments that really matter should never be produced. These types of photos will always be super organic and will matter forever. You will be grateful!

4. Numbers

Okay, the bride will be busy being a bride. You should probably have the numbers of all important vendors, family members, wedding planners, and competition…oops, sorry, the groom’s side in a compiled list so that it’s easily accessible. The only way to stop your beautiful best friend/bride from becoming Bridezilla is to make sure that she doesn’t have the stress of dealing with things that can easily be dealt with by someone else.

5. Hair necessities

You’re going to be running around all night and your hair will definitely not stay as perfect as it was, so it’s always a good idea to have some extra bobby pins and a mini hairspray to try to avoid any hair fails on the big day. A wedding is an event that will have you feeling like the paparazzi are after you because of how many photos are being taken near and around you. So, even though you have a lot of responsibilities as bestie to the bride, you need to make sure that you and her look as perfect as possible.

6. Mini first-aid kit

Accidents happen whether you like it or not, and even though it’s unfortunate, you need to make sure you’re prepared for the worst-case scenario at all times. Whether it’s a sprain on the dance floor, a cut from the mirror work lehenga, a headache from the loud music, or a stomach upset from the copious amounts of alcohol you’ll be drinking. Having first-aid is essential for any person in a wedding party. Bandaids, pain relief spray, and headache medicine are just the bare minimum you’ll need.

7. Roll-on deodorant/perfume

As much as we’d like to smell like roses and vanilla all the time, unfortunately, we are human, and running around all over the place in heavy outfits makes you sweat like crazy. BO is definitely not what we want to be projecting onto everyone we come across, so having a roll-on deodorant and a mini bottle of perfume will always be a good idea to make sure the bridal party smells as good as they look.

8. Mini alcohol bottles

Weddings are never complete without some nerves and what better way to wash away those nerves than with the bride’s liquor of choice. It’s totally okay to get a little loose and have a little fun on a big day like this. Among all the stress of perfection, a little bit of vodka won’t hurt anyone!

9. Tissues

You best believe there will be many happy tears around, and no wedding will fully be complete without seeing some crocodile tears falling from the eyes of loved ones of the bride and groom. Although a crybaby face can be a cute look sometimes, I’m sure that you wouldn’t necessarily want all of them to be filled with snot and tears for you or your bestie.
