Modern Furniture Trends For Couple Homes

A round-up of cutting-edge, chic, and evolved luxury furniture trends for 2018. Give your home a plush and romantic makeover in the new year.

A living space in itself is by no means complete. It invariably looks out for that one stellar piece of well-crafted furniture or an assortment of modish pieces. The Indian luxury furniture market is now open to global trends. In line with that modern Indian living spaces are no more constrained by pre-conceived notions when it comes to furniture, so you are likely to find a futuristic anatomy or avant-garde design elements easily in them. Entertaining spaces are also in vogue. The bottomline is that the surrounding décor has to fall in place with the central theme, be it classical or cutting-edge furniture.

The fashion-conscious Indian consumer has evolved over the years and is in sync with global home fashion trends. 'For this new breed of consumers, who have an appetite for luxury goods, we offer a variety of futuristic product lines that are available in funky designs and colours,” elucidates Samvit Tara, managing director, Roche Bobois, India. Eleonore Cavalli, creative director, Visionnaire, says, “Guidelines for an interior design project are defined by the creative moment that are blended with the needs of a client and their style of living. Interior design does not mean to merely fill in a space, but to shape the space itself, where the space and its contents are equally important. Décor elements represent specific styles, which can be broadly termed as classical, Nordic, contemporary, and international.” According to Tara the aesthetic influences that are currently in demand are “marble and wood, colours, extravagance, and freedom of form.”

For newlyweds who are all set to decorate their homes, Tara says, “We offer 3D render and design services so that customers can create luxurious concepts for their homes. We also have an interior design contract division that caters to the wedding market.” One of the latest offerings at the brand is their collaboration with the Japanese-French fashion designer Kenzo Takada, and the collection is inspired by Japanese kimono patterns and colourways. Cavalli signals toward the trend of green living reflected by the brand’s 2017 collection, Greenery. It uses natural materials like wood, stone, and marble.

The concept of design, as we see it today, is to facilitate an interactive tone that suits the evolving lifestyles. Timothy Oulton, founder and creative director, Timothy Oulton, points out that even the past needs to be recreated in a format which speaks for our times. He says, “Many of our designs take inspiration from the past but we twist it, we have our own take. I always talk about the Gyro Crystal chandelier—a rococo crystal chandelier, pretty as they are, is boring, but you whack it in a cage and it just becomes something else. I always say be relevant or be dead.” As hand-crafted leather furniture is a signature at the brand, Oulton says, “Invest in quality leathers with a natural look. We use translucent dyes instead of pigments, which are worked into the hide by hand, so the dye and leather become one. Our collection comes in a rich palette, from warm browns to deep reds, and statement wornout blacks, and this year we’ve also introduced Vagabond Blue and Mustard, which exude a vintage feel.”
