Inside Glenn Maxwell and Vini Raman's Fairytale Wedding Across Continents

After exchanging vows during a Christian ceremony in Melbourne, Australia, the madly and deeply-in-love couple flew back to Chennai to get hitched the Tamilian way.

On 27th March, Glenn James Maxwell, a professional Australian cricketer, tied the knot with his Indian better-half, Vini Raman, in a traditional Tamilian wedding ceremony. The couple, who got engaged amid the global pandemic in February last year, had been dating for over two years after they met at an Australian Twenty20 franchise cricket team event in Victoria.

Fast forward a year and a month later, the duo took the plunge—marrying in a Christian and South Indian wedding across two continents. For the elegant Christian ceremony, Glenn looked dapper in a crisp black suit, while his bride-to-be made heads turn in a bespoke, pristine white bridal gown from Jade Hill.

"It doesn’t matter where life takes us, as long as I am with you I know I am home. I promise to be your number one fan, supporting you through the highs and lows, to always be interested when you excitedly talk about your day on the golf course, and of course, to occasionally let you win an argument," penned Vini, an excerpt from her vows. She paired her deep décolleté gown with diamond stud earrings and minimal, natural makeup.

Post their nuptials, the pair flew down to Chennai, India, to wed the Tamilian way—an ode to Vini's cultural roots. For the pre-wedding Nalangu ceremony (a variation of the Haldi ceremony in the Hindu tradition), Glenn donned an asymmetrical orange sherwani set, while Vini wore a traditional South Indian style sari in a green and orange hue, paired with a necklace, maang tikka, and chandbali set, along with bangles.

The Haldi ceremony was followed by the Mehendi, which saw Vini Raman in an intricately embroidered Seema Gujral floral lehenga and Glenn Maxwell who complimented his wife-to-be in a pastel blue sherwani from Karegar. The bride and groom's respective families also donned flattering Indianwear ensembles for the function.

For the wedding ceremony, Glenn wore an ivory sherwani while Vini donned a traditional red and gold Kanjeevaram sari—here's a snippet from the couple's varmala exchange ceremony:
