Five movies to watch for the ultimate bachelorette party

Pyjamas, popcorn, iconic movies and your girls—is there anything else you need?

In recent years, bachelor and bachelorette parties have become a near phenomenon. It’s almost a pre-requisite for a fairy-tale-like wedding. Away from its early definition of a simple dinner or a day out, the modern-day bachelorette party can be anything you and your girls want it to be—a trip to Greece, a night out in Goa, the much-needed spa-cation, a yacht party or anything else. Amidst the frenzy and chaos of planning your dream wedding, all you might need is a night in with your bridesmaids. So, we’re here to tell you that it might not be such a bad idea to go back to the basics—planning a bachelorette night in with pyjamas, face masks, food, and your favourite movies. We rounded up a list of movies that would be absolutely perfect for a slumber party with your girls.

Bridesmaids

Would it really be the ultimate bachelorette without this movie? This cute and quirky comedy follows the story of an overwhelmed and all-over-the-place maid of honour, who must take on the many responsibilities that come with the position. And the film takes us through the frenzy of it all—dress fittings, a bridal shower, a lunch gone bad, and more. We promise it will leave you and your girlfriends rolling in laughter.

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani

Another iconic film—Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani—starring Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor is the perfect blend of excitement, love, and nostalgia. The story follow the journey of four friends from college till marriage covering the ups, downs, and everything in between. The film serves as a reminder of the good-old days and forever-kind of friendships and is ideal to watch with your friends before your wedding day. Pro tip? To make it even more fun, we’d definitely recommend dancing to the film’s music album—you won’t regret it.

Sex and the City

Here’s your cue to play bartender, make yourself and your girls some drinks and spend the night watching re-runs of Sex and the City—the show or the movies—with Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte, and Miranda. If you’re a fan of the show, let each episode serve as a lesson for your big day and everything that is to come. The movie will be a breath of relief to you (IFYKYK), but will leave you smiling and feeling warm and cosy. If you want to elevate the slumber party vibe, you can even pick out some chic and sparkly dresses, and put on some make-up to look and feel your best before you rbig day.

Mamma Mia

There’s nothing better than dancing to Super Trouper with your girls as at 12:00 am, the night before your wedding. Get into your most comfortable pyjamas and watch Sophie find herself in a fix when she invites three men (past flames of her mother, Donna), one of whom could be her father. Follow this intriguing journey intertwined with Abba’s iconic tracks, the blue waters of Greece and the marvel that is Meryl Streep. You can even make this the theme of your bachelorette—clothes, food, hairdos and all. Pro tip? Squeeze some time in for a karaoke to sing along to these classic numbers.

Aisha

This Sonam Kapoor-starrer, is everything fun, chic, and cute. The film follows the journey of a Delhi-based girl, Aisha, who loves to play matchmaker wherever she goes. Things quickly go haywire when relationships become complicated and Aisha’s constant interference in personal matters, leads to her ruining her friendships and relationships. Of course, the Bollywood movie is the perfect blend of tear-jerking moments, humorous dialogues, and dance-worthy numbers that make for a fun-filled bachelorette night.
