A Gay Couple Ties the Knot in Hyderabad, With the Wedding Officiated By a Trans Woman

Supriyo Chakraborty and Abhay Dang wed in an intimate ceremony in Telangana, in the company of their closest friends and family.

In a first in Telangana, a homosexual couple said, "I do". Abhay Dang from Delhi, 34, got hitched to his partner Supriyo Chakraborty from Kolkata, 31, at the Trance Greenfields Resort in the outskirts of Hyderabad. The duo made their relationship official via an exchange of rings, followed by Bengali and Punjabi rituals that paid tribute to both their cultures.

Supriyo is a senior faculty member at a prominent hotel management institute, while Abhay works at a multinational corporation in New Delhi. Representing the LGBTQIA community, the two were in an eight-year-long courtship before they became 'husband and husband'. But, what's even more interesting, is that their wedding was officiated by a trans woman named Sophia David.

"Thank you for making me a part of the most important day of your lives. You gave me a memory of a lifetime! It has been my honour and privilege, officiating your wedding," Sophia wrote in an appreciation post for the newlyweds. Take a look at the video:

Journalist Kingshuk Nag, who was present at the nuptials, said, "Spent a rather different evening today. Attended a gay marriage at a resort close to Hyderabad, between a faculty member of the Institute of Hotel Management and a senior manager of Amazon. The marriage vows were administered by a former manager of Deloitte who is a transvestite. The families of the couple and a large number of their friends were there to witness an event that reflected how India is changing slowly but surely."

Congratulations, we wish the couple a happy married life ahead.
