The lehenga body blueprint: What to do two weeks before your wedding

Fitness trainer Prateek Kumar shares what brides should and shouldn't do in the final checklist before the wedding.

The final few weeks before your wedding can feel like a whirlwind. Dance rehearsals become longer, family gatherings begin, late nights become inevitable, and every relative suddenly has advice on how to lose "just two more kilos". It's also the time when panic tends to set in, leading many brides to try crash diets, detoxes, and miracle hacks in the hope of looking leaner on the big day.

But according to fitness trainer and wellness coach Prateek Kumar, this is precisely when you should resist the urge to experiment. As the final chapter of The Lehenga Body Blueprint series, this is all about fine-tuning the healthy habits you have already built, not trying to reinvent your body in two weeks.

Stay consistent, don't chase shortcuts

"The last month should look almost exactly like the months before it," says Kumar. Rather than making dramatic changes, he recommends sticking to the same balanced eating and workout routine you have been following.

The only tweaks he suggests are reducing foods that commonly cause bloating. "Keep sugar and dairy as low as possible during this period, as it can trigger excess sebum production and acne for some people. Too much sugar may leave you feeling puffy and inflamed," he explains.

If you plan to reduce carbohydrates for a leaner look, timing matters. "Do it only for the last five to seven days," he advises. "Cutting carbs for an entire month can leave you low on energy and may even affect muscle mass, making you look flat rather than toned," he adds.

Kumar mentions that there are no detox teas, juice cleanses, or miracle products that can safely transform your body days before your wedding. "Apart from plastic surgery, which also comes with weeks of recovery, there's nothing that works overnight," he says. "No crash diet, no detox tea, and no quick fix that won't affect your hormones or your skin."

Focus on feeling your best

Indian weddings rarely last just one day. Between haldi, mehendi, sangeet, pheras, and endless celebrations, the week before the wedding often includes rich food, travel, and very little downtime. Kumar's advice is to focus on keeping your body calm rather than obsessively trying to lose extra weight.

Sleep tops the list. Throughout this series, he has repeatedly stressed that quality sleep is one of the biggest contributors to recovery, reduced inflammation, and overall wellbeing. Staying well hydrated is equally important, especially if celebrations include alcohol. "The more water you drink, the more your body is able to flush everything out," he says.

He also recommends staying lightly active during the celebrations. "Try to get some kind of a small, mild activity or even a 30-minute walk, if possible. It will also reduce the inflammation and just eat light, simple good," he says.

He also advises to include plenty of fruits and vegetables and not fall for viral "wedding morning" drinks that promise instant results. "There is no celery juice you can drink on your wedding day that's suddenly going to transform your body," Kumar quips.

The final advice

His final advice, however, has little to do with fitness. "There is only one you. Be proud of the effort you have put in, whether it's for three months, one month, or six years. Your confidence comes from accepting yourself," he says.

After months of planning, training, and preparing, the goal isn't to become someone else before you step into your lehenga. The real goal is to walk into your wedding feeling healthy, confident, and completely yourself. And that's a transformation no last-minute hack can ever promise.
