Since their engagement in August, fans of Sobhita Dhulipala and Naga Chaitanya have been eagerly awaiting the announcement of their wedding date. The wait seems to have finally ended, as reports about the much-anticipated Tollywood wedding have been circulating. The wedding is said to take place on December 4.
Here’s everything we know about the wedding—venue, ceremonies, and everything in between.
The significance of the venue
Ever since the couple got engaged, people have speculated whether it would be a dreamy winter wedding in Rajasthan, like the many Indian celebrities who chose the palaces of the state for their ceremony, or a trendy international destination like Italy. The speculation has finally been put to rest. The two will marry closer to home, at Annapurna Studios in Hyderabad, honouring the groom’s family legacy. The 22-acre site in Banjara Hills was founded in 1976 by Naga Chaitanya's grandfather Akkineni Nageswara Rao, a renowned actor and producer. For the wedding, a special mandap will be created inside the studio.
Pre-wedding rituals
Just like the close-knit engagement in Hyderabad in August and the Godhuma Raayi Pasupu Danchadam (crushing turmeric) ceremony in Sobhita’s hometown, Visakhapatnam, in October, the wedding ceremony will be a traditional Telugu affair with ceremonies like Jeelakarra Bellam (when the couple apply a cumin-jaggery paste on each other’s heads) to be followed. The couple is expected to keep the event extremely low-key with only family members and close friends in attendance.
On October 21, Dhulipala shared photos from the pre-wedding ceremony and wrote, "Godhuma Raayi Pasupu danchatam. And so it begins! (sic)." The ritual involves the couple grinding turmeric, wheat, and other grains on a stone and symbolises the couple's commitment to living a life in harmony together. The very same turmeric is then used for future rituals.
The couple began dating in 2022 and have been private about their relationship. In fact, the couple did not even make an official announcement about their engagement. Naga's father, Nagarjuna took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to inform everyone about the happy news. His post read: "We are delighted to announce the engagement of our son, Naga Chaitanya to Sobhita Dhulipala, which took place this morning at 9:42 a.m!! We are overjoyed to welcome her into our family. Congratulations to the happy couple! Wishing them a lifetime of love and happiness. God bless! 8.8.8 A beginning of infinite love (sic)."
