When cultures collide: An Indian-Korean wedding in Folegandros

From vegan menus to Hanbok attire, this destination wedding redefined intentional celebrations.

Kavin and Mia’s wedding in Folegandros was nothing short of extraordinary—a celebration where Indian and Korean traditions met, all wrapped in a love story rooted in shared values, spirituality, and sustainability. Based in Singapore, the couple went to lengths to ensure their three-day wedding reflected both their cultures and their lifestyle, all the while embracing the natural beauty of this Greek island.

As committed vegans, Kavin, a Gujarati Jain, and Mia ensured that every element of the wedding was intentional. Oat milk was shipped all the way from Singapore for guests, and a fully vegan menu was prepared for all three events, reflecting their commitment to ethical choices without compromising on taste or grandeur.

The celebrations took place at Gundari Resort, a newly-launched luxury property perched on Folegandros’ cliffs, offering panoramic views of the Aegean Sea. The festivities were thoughtfully designed to blend Indian and Korean customs across three distinct events.

The wedding journey began on June 16 with the sangeet at the historic Paliomilos Winery. This 19th-century stone building, once the island’s Magistrate’s Court, provided a rustic yet charming backdrop. Guests were treated to cultural performances that celebrated the couple’s roots, and local islanders were delighted to witness the rare spectacle of a “big fat Indian wedding” on their island.

The following day saw the haldi ceremony held at the groom’s villa. With sweeping views of the Aegean Sea and strong island winds prompting last-minute adjustments, the event was a magical blend of Indian and Korean traditions. The couple donned traditional attire, including the Korean Hanbok, and incorporated rituals from both cultures, creating a deeply personal celebration that honoured their heritage.

Finally, June 18 marked the wedding ceremony at Gundari Resort. Originally planned at the edge of the infinity pool, the mandap was moved to a sheltered stone-walled spot due to the winds. This intimate setting brought a grounded, serene energy to the occasion. Surrounded by nature, friends, and family, Kavin and Mia exchanged vows in a heartfelt ceremony that perfectly reflected their values and the fusion of their cultures.

What made this wedding truly unique wasn’t just its stunning location, but the couple’s dedication to creating an intentional celebration. From shipped-in decor and kitchenware to carefully curated cultural touches, every detail told the story of two people coming together in love, respect, and sustainability—a modern, meaningful celebration on the cliffs of Greece.
