After shooting some of the country’s most high-profile weddings, Vishal Punjabi of The Wedding Filmer tied the knot with the love of his life, London-based Nikki Krishnan. The couple shares their sweet love story with Brides Today.
How we met
“We first met at my sister’s wedding, where Vishal was filming the event. At first, I thought his many questions were simply for the wedding film, but I quickly realised he was genuinely interested in getting to know me. There was an effortless connection between us—I felt so at ease in his presence, and by the end of the wedding, I found myself longing to spend more time with him. The wedding was a beautiful backdrop not just for my sister’s love story but for what would become the beginning of ours.”
The next step
“Although the distance made it difficult, we always found a way to make it work. After my first visit to Mumbai, it became clear that what we had was truly special. We both invested our time and energy into nurturing our relationship, and marriage felt like the natural progression. Vishal then surprised me with the most heartfelt, spiritual proposal, more beautiful than I could have imagined.”
Leading up to the big day
“Having our registry wedding in the UK felt natural because it’s where I was born and raised. Marylebone Town Hall and the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Hyde Park were the perfect venues—elegant, intimate and timeless. We wanted something personal and slightly non-traditional, so we invited family members to participate in the ceremony and wrote our own vows. I kept the décor minimal, with peonies, freesias and tulips—our favourite flowers—to add a touch of elegance. It was also important for us to honour our cultures, so we incorporated elements from India and Ghana as a surprise for our parents and Vishal. The day was exactly what we had hoped for—simple, meaningful and intimate.”
Memories that will last a lifetime
“One of the most special memories for me was walking in with my father—a moment filled with love and anticipation and something I’ll always hold close to my heart. Seeing Vishal waiting for me, looking so handsome in his white suit, gave me an overwhelming sense of comfort.
Another deeply meaningful moment was when we cut the cake and lit the candles we had saved for so long as a symbolic gesture of our journey together. The sit-down meal was intimate, and the speeches were deeply touching. To share this day with those closest to us and see them so happy was truly precious. The sense of being cocooned in so much love is something I’ll cherish forever.”
My advice
“Don’t rush—love will find you when you least expect it, and when you’re with the right person, even the things you never thought you’d be capable of doing can feel completely natural. Make sure you’re getting married for the right reasons—marriage is about more than just a ceremony; it’s about the meaning behind it.
When it comes to planning, start early, but don’t stress over perfection. I found that everything may not go exactly as planned, but the overall feeling of the day will stay with you and your guests. Focus on what truly matters to you, and let your vision shine through. Surround yourself with people who genuinely support you, and their love will make the day unforgettable.”
