Harman and Nikhil's four-day wedding celebrations brought Hindu and Sikh traditions together in Bali

Harman and Nikhil’s destination wedding in Nusa Dua blended Sikh and Hindu Punjabi rituals with the calm spirituality of Bali.

Set against the serene coastline of Nusa Dua, the wedding of Harman Dev and Nikhil Sabharwal was a thoughtfully planned, four-day celebration that balanced emotion, culture, and modern elegance. Hosted across the Hilton Resort and Puri Bhagawan, the festivities reflected not just where the couple come from, but also who they are today.

Doctors by profession, Dev and Sabharwal met while studying medicine and now specialise in Radiology in Perth, Australia. Their shared journey, shaped by long years of study, distance, and commitment, found its culmination in Bali, a location chosen for its spiritual energy and ability to host multiple traditions with ease.

From medical school to marriage

The couple’s story began in medical school, where friendship gradually turned into love. Dev was raised in Vancouver before moving to Australia for her medical education, while Sabharwal grew up in Adelaide after relocating from Punjab as a child. Despite different upbringings, their values aligned early on, thus shaping their journey from classmates to life partners. Their engagement took place in Jaipur, Rajasthan, during a romantic proposal that set the tone for a wedding rooted in meaning rather than spectacle.

A colourful start to the celebrations

The wedding week opened with a Bollywood-style haldi at the Hilton’s presidential villa. Bright shades of yellow, pink, and blue filled the space, complemented by floral showers, rangolis, and intimate prayers. The mood was joyful but grounded, marking the beginning of four days that would move freely between fun and tradition.

The sangeet followed with a lively poolside celebration. Smoke bomb entries, a patterned dance floor, and high-energy performances set the pace for the evening. Punjabi folk traditions like Jaago added cultural depth, while the kaleera ceremony brought moments of anticipation and laughter as friends waited to see whose kaleera would fall first.

A Sikh ceremony by the ocean

The Sikh wedding took place at Puri Bhagawan, framed by the ocean and soft pastel decor. Floral installations and a chandelier-lined mandap made the setting magical. One of the most emotional moments came after the laavan, when Dev's mother placed her own heirloom bridal dupatta on her daughter, creating a deeply personal connection across generations.

As the ceremony concluded, guests showered the couple with flowers, making the whole scene look straight out of a fairytale.

Sunset vows and a stylish finale

That evening, the Hilton’s cliffside lower cascade hosted the Hindu wedding at sunset. Dev's entrance to a custom-composed song set an intimate tone, while the varmala exchange unfolded with fireworks and cascading flowers. The ceremony flowed into a rooftop dinner at Elara, complete with a band exchange and a final fireworks display overlooking the sea.

The celebrations concluded with a grand reception in the Hilton ballroom. Thoughtful details defined the evening, from a “ring the bell” drink wall to a live painting station where each guest received a portrait. A photo guestbook captured memories in real time, offering a personal keepsake from the night.

Rooted in tradition yet shaped by modern choices, this Bali wedding was a reflection of Dev and Sabharwal's shared life, one built on intention, balance, and quiet joy.
