On February 10, 2026, the gilded halls of Emirates Palace became the setting for one of the most visually arresting Indian weddings of the year. Yet beneath the grandeur lay something far more intimate. The wedding of Dhruv Khatoria and Shalina Jhalani was not conceived as a spectacle for scale alone, but as a continuation of a love story that began quietly on the shores of Lake Como. Designed by Envelop, the celebration marked a notable evolution of the Big Fat Indian Wedding. While opulence remained intact, the emphasis shifted toward narrative-driven design, where memory, meaning, and emotional continuity shaped every arch, bloom, and note of music.

The conceptual seed for the wedding was planted at Villa del Balbianello, where Dhruv proposed in a private, unhurried moment overlooking the Italian waters. Rather than treating the proposal as a standalone chapter, the couple chose to weave it into the very architecture of their wedding narrative. Envelop translated this origin story into a spatial experience that felt both cinematic and deeply personal. Drawing inspiration from Italian châteaux, the design unfolded through structured gardens, sculptural arches, and elongated processional pathways that encouraged pause and presence. The environments were layered, never overwhelming, always intentional, allowing guests to move through the celebration as if turning pages in a beautifully bound book.

At the heart of the celebration stood Carousel Symphony, a dramatic floral installation paired with a live Italian symphonic performance. Instead of mimicking literal rotation, the structure evoked rhythm and flow through its composition and placement. Florals cascaded in sculptural formations, while music infused the air with emotion, blurring the boundaries between architecture and performance. The result was immersive without being overpowering, an orchestration of space that mirrored the cadence of the couple’s journey.
Set against the regal backdrop of Emirates Palace, the design deliberately played with contrast. Monumental ceilings and sweeping corridors were softened by delicate blooms and intimate lighting. Grandeur met gentleness; scale was balanced with sensitivity. The venue itself became an active collaborator, offering a global stage for a celebration rooted in deeply personal memory. One of the most poignant moments of the ceremony was the varmala. In a powerful visual gesture, the exact framing of the Lake Como proposal was recreated within the Abu Dhabi setting. For a fleeting instant, time and geography collapsed. Italy and the UAE coexisted in a single ceremonial frame, reinforcing the idea that weddings, at their most meaningful, are less about location and more about the feelings they evoke.

Reflecting on the vision, Jai Sharma, Founder of Envelop, shared, “For us, Dhruv and Shalina’s wedding was about translating a deeply personal love story into space, allowing architecture, florals, and music to hold memory. Every installation, every procession, every frame was designed to feel intimate despite the scale, to ensure the couple remained at the centre of an experience that felt immersive, yet deeply personal.”
Dhruv and Shalina’s wedding signals a subtle but significant shift in the language of luxury Indian celebrations. The emphasis is no longer solely on magnitude, but on meaning. It is about constructing environments that carry emotion, about allowing design to narrate rather than decorate.

At Emirates Palace, splendour provided the canvas, but it was memory that supplied the masterpiece. By anchoring their wedding in the place that shaped their story, the couple demonstrated that true grandeur lies not just in spectacle, but in sincerity.
