A Lake Como wedding full of love, legacy, serendipity, and soul

What began as a chance swipe on Bumble between Kinjal Patel and Herit Vachhani soon turned into a love story that crossed states, countries, and eventually, oceans. From long-distance dates over pizza and gelato to a wedding that blended heritage with heartfelt details, their journey found its forever in the breathtaking setting of Lake Como’s Villa Balbiano.

A chance match that changed everything

Kinjal Patel and Herit Vachhani’s love story began with serendipity. While visiting his sister in Philadelphia, Vachhani briefly appeared in Patel's dating radius on Bumble—just for a day—before she reset it. Within that small window, they matched, and their journey began. Their first date involved pizza and gelato, followed by a carefully planned New York outing proposed by Vachhani. Soon after, a long-distance relationship blossomed across Enola, Pennsylvania, and Paramus, New Jersey. Over the course of three years, they sustained their love through calls and bi-monthly vacations across the U.S. and Europe, proving that distance only strengthened their bond.

Choosing Villa Balbiano

For Patel, Villa Balbiano was destiny. She first visited Lake Como with her family in 2021, when her mother jokingly said she would marry there someday. Years later, after Patel and Vachhani’s first international trip together—where they stayed nearby and promised to marry each other there—the dream became reality. On 3 June 2025, with the mountains and waters of Como as witnesses, their vision came alive.

A ceremony blessed by rain and sunshine

As Vachhani arrived at the mandap, raindrops began to fall. By the time Patel walked down the aisle, it poured—yet instead of panic, she embraced the moment with serenity. The rain stopped just as the varmala was complete, giving way to golden skies. It felt symbolic, as if nature itself was blessing their union with calm after a storm.

A bride who planned it all

Choosing not to hire a planner, Patel designed every detail of the wedding herself. Four planners had initially declined the Villa Balbiano project, but Patel's determination led her to work directly with the villa’s team. With a love for hosting and curating experiences, she infused personal touches into every element. From her bold and vibrant floral vision—resembling a painting set against Lake Como’s scenic beauty—to carefully handpicked vendors who became friends, the celebration was both deeply personal and profoundly beautiful.

Bridal style rooted in legacy and love

For her vows, Patel wore a corset saree by Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla, while Vachhani chose a Reiss London suit. For the wedding ceremony, they both turned to Tarun Tahiliani, with Patel selecting a rani pink saree—the same shade her mother wore at her wedding, and her own favourite colour. The reception look was a muted gold-beige Tarun Tahiliani creation that glowed against the Lake Como landscape, while Vachhani wore Shantnu & Nikhil. A Zimmerman white dress for Patel and a Reiss suit for Vachhani made their vintage car shoot another unforgettable chapter.

Patel's jewellery was another journey of its own. She travelled across India to design gold-based heirlooms that honoured her Gujarati heritage. From a custom set by Shri Paramani Jewels in Delhi to pieces from Shobha Shringar in Mumbai, each jewel was crafted with care. Most meaningful of all were her great-grandmother’s 22kt gold bangles, worn by three generations of women before her, embodying love and continuity.

An intimate gathering makes for timeless memories

With only nine guests present, including their immediate families and grandmother, the wedding was intentionally intimate. The closeness of the celebration allowed every moment to be cherished deeply, whether it was the laughter of shared meals, the joy of exchanging vows, or the quiet magic of Lake Como.

From their unexpected Bumble match to their wedding at Villa Balbiano, Patel and Vachhani’s love story has been one of chance, persistence, and meaning. Their Lake Como wedding embodied their personalities—joyful, timeless, and deeply personal—while weaving together legacy, style, and soul.
