The best bridal trends to cop from Lakmē Fashion Week X FDCI

Choose from glittering floral patterns, sleek belted saris, pastel hues, and more!

The Lakmē Fashion Week X FDCI is always a huge indicator of what will rule the fashion roost in the coming months. If you’re a trendsetter bride-to-be who wants to wear the latest fashion hits on her special day without compromising on personal style, we’ve got you covered. We scoured shows from all five days of the fashion week to bring the best bridal trends. Take a look at them below and adapt them to your taste for a tailor-made aesthetic!

Experiment with ruffles and feathers

Bold and eccentric ruffles, feathers, and tulle made a splash on the runway in a big way, from making their way onto the shoulder pads of blouses to the waterfall hemlines of elaborate lehengas. Kalki was one of the few labels that used these different elements in addition to tassels and fringe to create plenty of visual interest in its collection. Take a leaf out of their show and don’t shy away from adding these to your wedding day look.

Capes continue to rule the runway

Flowing capes and whimsical jackets formed the mainstay of Sejal Kamdar’s collection at Lakmē Fashion Week X FDCI. Capes, kaftans, and robes have burst into traditional fashion and become a favourite of designers and celebs alike, with everyone from Deepika Padukone to Khushi Kapoor donning them. Hop onto the trend by going for the dramatic silhouette on your big day.

Add a dash of shimmer to your florals

Florals have long been a mainstay in bridal wear, especially when it comes to fun and flirty pieces for ceremonies like mehndi and sangeet. Take it to the next level by marrying glitter and intricate florals for a head-turning look. Ranna Gill incorporated the aesthetic for his collection titled ‘Urban Prairie’ that had gowns, pantsuits, and more in sparkling fabrics juxtaposed with colourful flowers.

Pastel shades are perfect for the season

This spring-summer is the season of sorbet shades if runway styles are to be believed. And it’s not just relegated to contemporary wear, the usually bright and bold palette of bridal wear is getting a pastel makeover, too. Anushree Reddy’s collection ‘Gulab-Bari’, inspired by the opulence of Nizami tapestries, featured lehengas and sarees in hues that looked good enough to eat, from cooling mints and blush pinks, to creamy whites and delicate lilacs. So, instead of going for a wedding trousseau in deep hues, go the lighter route.

Belts are the hottest accessory to wear with saris

One wouldn’t think to add a sleek belt to bring together an outfit featuring a sari, yet couturier JJ Valaya’s JJV Kapurthala showcase had models strut down the runway dressed in geometrically patterned saris cinched at the waist by a belt. Take inspiration and wear your sari with a belt featuring a statement buckle to add more structure and uniqueness to your look.
