Jonathan Saunders Steps Down From Diane von Furstenberg Role

Just after 18 months at the brand's helm, Scottish designer Jonathan Saunders has resigned from Diane von Furstenberg as the chief creative officer.

Jonathan Saunders has resigned from his post as the chief creative officer of Diane von Furstenberg. The Scottish designer arrived in mid-2016 and quickly put his stamp on the four-decade-old heritage brand, from refreshing the fabrications and silhouettes of the clothes to updating the the label. He was responsible for all product categories, as well as store design, web design, and marketing.

The designer came up during London’s digital-print boom. He made prints a centrepiece of his eponymous collection, which he shuttered late last year after being 12 years in business. With an exceptional eye for colours, often in clashing combinations, Saunders put all that into play in his debutant SS 2017 outing for the DVF brand that included on-the-bias, asymmetric dresses with multiple dot and floral prints. In a release, Saunders said, “I am grateful for Diane’s support and for the opportunity of guiding this iconic brand. I am so proud of everything we have accomplished in the past 18 months. I thank the incredible team for their dedication and support, and will continue to be a friend and admirer of the brand.”

“I am so thankful for Jonathan’s beautiful work and the effort and dedication he has put into DVF in the last 18 months,” Von Furstenberg said in a statement. “He will leave an important and lasting heritage to the brand.”
