Ace fashion designer Tarun Tahiliani concluded India Couture Week 2019 on an opulent note with his bridal and festive collection ‘Bloom’. As specified by the designer himself, ‘Bloom’ recognises the power of global cultural metamorphosis and evolution first and undeniably suggests ample floral usage later.
With wholesome construct and refined cuts, the collection was completed with 72 pieces of bridal couture and occasion wear ranging from lightweight lehengas, Shararas, peplum blouses, concept sarees, structured drapes, Anarkalis and jumpsuits with fusion. Although the blooming element was maintained intact with the borders cut in shape of flowers and adorned with glass pipes and pearls.
Where fine zari work of Kashida was used around prints on one hand, chikankari gave the collection a sublime grandeur on another. Other Indian techniques dominating the collection were mukaish embroidery, Jammevar and Resham thread embroidery on kanjeevaram, Neelambaris and Chandheri. For floral extravagance, motifs were experimented with French knots, tulle, jaali burned in the fabric, lace, and ombré beading.
The colour palette was diverse with occasion wear set on electric blue, deep violet and plum further outfits were of a softer tone with pastels of peach, dusty rose, blush pink, coral, teal, vintage gold and aqua. However, the highlight of the show was an embellished trailing lehenga with almost 100,000 exquisite Swarovski crystals encrusted in its flora inspired appliqué embroidery.
The menswear comprised of tone-on-tone Sherwanis, Mughal-inspired layered kurtas channelling the quintessential groom with neatly tied 'saafa' complementing the tone of the main garment's fabric but with lots of intricate embroidery and fresh bold patterns.
