The first day of the India Couture Week 2018 ended on a high note with Anju Modi’s larger-than-life Victorian Era inspired runway collection. Aesthetically pleasing art and architecture, classic literature and ostentatious fashion from the era bygone inspired a collection that spoke a delicate language of romantic nostalgia.
Statement sleeves, flouncy gowns, printed lehengas paired with muted blouse were some of the highlights of her collection. Titled ‘A Maiden Prayer’, the colour palette moved from buttery yellows and pistachio greens to navy blues and maroons.
Rich fabrics like velvet, silk and brocade in jewel tones with ornate embroidery and embellishments marked the ensembles. Anju Modi played smartly with structures and silhouettes by pairing lehengas with capes, belted anarkali tops with long skirts and added a fresh spark to the otherwise Victorian vibe with bell sleeves, asymmetrical hemlines and contemporary drapery.
Modi’s showstopper actress Kangana Ranaut ended the show with the elegance of the Victorian era in a beige lehenga and blouse with a sheen and minimal embroidery. The voluminous ensemble was styled with a flowing, maroon velvet jacket in maroon that gave it a incredibly regal touch. The look was perfected with a diamond necklace by RK Jewellers and a Victorian hairstyle.
