4 celebrity brides who ditched the red chooda for a pretty pink pair

...And we’re here for it!

Markers of marriage vary across cultures and communities—while a mangalsutra might be the quintessential symbol of marriage among the Hindus, a chooda, or a set of bangles worn by a newly-wedded bride for a certain period of time, has been traditional in the Sikh community. The ritual seems to have originated in Punjab, where the Sikh religion originated.

Though traditionally always a vibrant red colour, modern brides are opting for a subtler, pink shade for their chooda, if the latest string of celebrity weddings has anything to go by.

So, if you’re willing to ditch the red chooda in favour of a more trendy pink, look to these celebrity brides for some inspiration—from Kiara Advani to Arpita Mehta.

The most recent bride to opt for an all-pink look on her wedding day was actor Kiara Advani, who tied the knot with actor Siddharth Malhotra earlier this year. While her ensemble was nothing short of stunning, it was her dual-tone white and pastel pink chooda by jewellery designer Mrinalini Chandra that bowled us over! She paired them with rose gold kaleere, completing the whole look.

Singer Kanika Kapoor got married in an intimate ceremony in London last year, and she was one of the many celebrity brides who opted for romantic pink as her colour of choice for the big day. From her rosy make-up to her blush-hued jewellery, she looked like a vision in pink, right down to her pink chooda paired with golden kaleere. Safe to say, you can’t ever have enough of pink!

Arpita Mehta

When designers Arpita Mehta and Kunal Rawal got hitched last year, the cute moment shared between the couple as Mehta entered went viral. But we had our eyes firmly fixed on her breathtaking ensemble for the occasion. Mehta went for a stunning gold look for her big day, and complemented it with a baby pink chooda that we couldn’t get enough of. So, if you’re also looking to wear a gold or ivory lehenga on your wedding, take inspiration from Mehta and don a pink chooda.

Mira Rajput, who tied the knot with actor Shahid Kapoor in 2015, was one of the first few celebrity brides to forego the traditional red look and opt for a pastel pink shade instead. She even went for choodas in a matching soft pink colour, giving brides-to-be plenty of inspiration for their big day!
