Fake sangeets are trending—and no, there’s no family drama involved

Sangeet-themed parties with no actual wedding? Yes please.

Ever felt the FOMO at your cousin’s wedding? Or have you ever wanted to attend a sangeet just to dress up, sing, and dance? Maybe you’ve even fantasised about crashing a wedding just for the fun of it? Well, if this is all true, we've got some good news for you.

Enter: the scam sangeet. It’s not just your basic Friday night party—it’s a full-blown, no-rules, no-groom, no-bride wedding-themed bash.

The memo is simple: no boring outfits allowed. These parties come with everything you’d expect from a real sangeet—mehendi counters, wedding-themed games, Hindi and Punjabi beats on full blast, just minus the actual shaadi.

One of the first event companies to popularise this concept is Saddi Galli, based in Navi Mumbai. Founder of Saddi Galli,  Alisha Chowri, says, “My brother’s wedding was coming up, and I was super excited—so excited that it was all I talked about with my friends. It was then that we decided to execute this idea as a full-blown event. We’d only been to pool parties and clubs before, so this idea felt fresh. This concept was something new, and we were willing to give it a shot.”

Their first party was a hit, so much so that they were overbooked. “With the success of our first event, we’re now planning to expand. We’re already getting inquiries from across India,” adds Chowri. The brand even collaborated with Lakmé to offer free makeup stations for guests. Also on offer? A dessert bar, mehendi counters, and wedding-style décor—minus nosy relatives, of course.

Turns out, shaadi fever doesn’t discriminate by age either. The guest list spanned multiple generations, united by a love for marigold décor and high-energy dancing.

Another player in the scene is Jumma Ki Raat, based in New Delhi. The name itself is a vibe, and so are their events—tickets start at ₹550 per person. Jumma Ki Raat promises an authentic shaadi-style celebration, complete with dance floors, desi snacks, and photo ops that’ll light up your feed. Whether you’re there to groove to the dhol, flaunt your lehenga for the ’gram, or just eat wedding laddoos without the commitment, fake sangeets are officially the place to be.

And we’re just getting started. As buzz builds, it’s only a matter of time before someone throws a full-on fake baarat, haldi, or even a bidaai (with zero emotional baggage, of course).

This may be a trend, but it’s here to stay because a sangeet isn't just an event, it’s an emotion.
