How to prepare your skin for your wedding

It’s time to shine on your big day.

Preparing your skin for the wedding season is key to having a radiant glow while you celebrate and enjoy one party after the other. It's essential to prioritise your skincare routine to look fresh and radiant in your functions. Leading dermatologists recommend following these skincare tips to look best.

Establish a daily routine: Start by cleansing your skin thoroughly to remove any impurities and create a fresh canvas. Cleanse your face twice a day using a gentle, sulfate-free cleanser that suits your skin type. Follow up with a toner to balance the skin's pH levels.

Exfoliate wisely: Follow it up with a gentle exfoliation to slough away dead skin cells and reveal a smoother texture. Regular exfoliation (two to three times a week), helps remove dead skin cells, promoting a smoother complexion. Opt for chemical exfoliants with ingredients like alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) or beta hydroxy acids (BHAs) instead of harsh physical scrubs.

Hydration is key: Keep your skin hydrated with a suitable moisturiser. For dry skin, use a richer cream, while oil-free, non-comedogenic moisturisers are best for oily skin.

Don't forget the delicate eye area: Don't neglect the delicate skin around your eyes. Use a gentle eye cream to keep the area moisturised and prevent fine lines. Furthermore, you can apply a hydrating eye cream to diminish any signs of fatigue. To amp up the radiance, incorporate a brightening serum or face mask enriched with antioxidants and vitamins.

Sunscreen protection: Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 50 or higher, daily, even on cloudy days to maintain a youthful look. This shields your skin from sun damage, preventing premature aging and hyperpigmentation.

Stay hydrated and follow a healthy diet: Drinking plenty of water and consuming a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and healthy fats contribute to glowing skin.

Manage your stress: High-stress levels can affect your skin. Practice relaxation techniques and get enough sleep to promote skin rejuvenation.

Botox and fillers: If you're considering Botox or fillers to address fine lines, wrinkles, or volume loss, it's essential to plan ahead. These treatments should ideally be done a few months before the wedding to allow for any minor adjustments and to ensure natural-looking results.

Skin boosters: Skin boosters are injectable treatments that help improve skin hydration and overall texture. They contain hyaluronic acid, a natural moisturiser, and are administered through microinjections. Skin boosters can be beneficial for achieving a radiant, glowing complexion. For optimal results, consider starting these a few months before the wedding.

Body polishing: Besides the face, areas such as arms and back especially require a deep exfoliation to remove tan and give the body a uniform, even tone. It is best to do in-clinic treatments rather than home or salon-based peels to avoid reactions, rashes, and burns.

Ensure time is on your side: While Botox, fillers, and skin boosters can yield impressive results, it's crucial to schedule these treatments wisely. Allow enough time for any potential side effects like bruising or swelling to subside before your wedding day. Typically, two to four weeks are sufficient for most people, but individual healing times may vary. Refrain from trying out new products just before the wedding and just stick to your established routine to avoid potential adverse reactions.

Remember, a consistent and personalised skincare routine, along with a healthy lifestyle, will help you achieve a radiant and glowing complexion on your big day. Start early and be patient with your skin as it takes time to show improvements. Enjoy your wedding season with confidence and beautiful skin!
