You sure do want to look and feel your best on your wedding day, and oily skin can totally ruin that for you. The skin becomes oily when the sebaceous glands in the skin generate too much sebum. Sebum is the waxy, oily substance that protects and hydrates the skin. While sebum is vital for keeping the skin healthy, too much of it can be problematic. Oily skin results in clogged pores and stubborn acne, something you shouldn't have to deal with right before your D-day. Well, we spoke to Dr Simal Soin, Aayna Clinic, Dr Geetika Mittal, Isaac Wellness and Dr Pooja Chhabra, Co-founder Nuskay, to find the solution to it all.
REMEMBER TO CLEANSE
It is recommended that you cleanse your face at least twice a day, especially if you suffer from excessive oily skin. By inculcating this habit, one will be able to wash away excess oil and dirt from the surface of the skin, without stripping the skin off the essential oils it requires. One must also exfoliate using a charcoal scrub, to get rid of the days grime sitting on the skin.
APPLY A FACE MASK
A face mask isn't meant to replace your daily face-cleansing routine; it's only meant to enhance it. For oily skin, one should apply a mask once a week or once in two weeks. A clay mask or a mask with the ingredient 'Multani Mitti', acts as an oil absorbing agent, fighting acne and pimples. Masks containing cucumber are also apt for tackling oily skin, given that cucumber has astringent properties and Vitamin C which helps tighten the pores and remove sebum, dirt and dead skin cells.
MOISTURISE WELL
Using a lightweight, oil- free moisturiser will hydrate your skin while also retaining it's essential oils. Making use of a water-based or gel-based cream, as well as a medicated face wash like Cetaphil, will prove to be beneficial for your skin.A water-based serum that will easily get absorbed into the skin, such as the 'Nuskay Golden Dew Concentrate' is a great option, as it doesn't leave any oily residue behind.
GO FOR AN SPF
In the morning, make sure to use a moisturiser formulated with a broad-spectrum UV protection, since spending time in the sun without protection can lead to sun damage. When you have an oily skin-type, you may be tempted to skip out on sunscreen, out of fear of making your skin even oilier. However, applying a sunscreen is possibly the most vital step in any skincare routine, and mustn't be skipped on any grounds.
PRO PRODUCTS
Products with benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, glycolic acid and tea tree oil, help kill bacteria and regulate the skin's oil balance as well. The key to remember is that you do not want to clog your pores further.
