Microblading 101: Everything You Need To Know To Get The Best Brows Of Your Life

A professional’s take on the ins and outs of the biggest eyebrow trend

Full brows can make your face appear softer and more youthful. But if you aren’t blessed with naturally thick brows, microblading may be your next best option. Brides Today talks to Pakkhi P Siroya, founder of Team Vanity, a Mumbai-based salon, which specialises in the process, to learn more about it.

Brides Today: What, exactly, is microblading?

Pakkhi P Siroya: It is a tattooing technique where a small handheld tool made of several tiny needles is used to add semi-permanent pigment to your skin, mimicking brow hair. The ink is deposited into the upper dermis and hence differs from a tattoo, which is injected into the dermis, making it permanent. The goal is to reshape the outline of your natural brows and/or enhance the fullness by adding additional strokes.

BT: When should a bride schedule her first session?

PPS: At least three to four months prior to her wedding date.

BT: How should one prepare for the procedure?

PPS: First, we recommend booking a consultation to discuss the desired shape and colour. Once this is done, schedule the appointment. Avoid drinking alcohol or caffeinated beverages 24 hours prior to the procedure as this can cause the blood to thin and slow down recovery time. Ideally, skip the use of any emollient around the brow area three days prior to the session to ensure that the skin is dry.

BT: How long does it last?

PPS: Depending on the skin type, the effect stays between eight to 12 months.

BT: Does the colour change?

PPS: The pigment will darken the first week after the procedure, so don’t be alarmed. It will begin to lighten due to scabbing. Because of this, there are always two services included in a microblading experience—the second appointment should be scheduled four to six weeks after. This is necessary to create lasting results, otherwise, the colour will fade much faster.

BT: What is the routine to be followed post the procedure?

PPS: It is essential to keep your newly-microbladed eyebrows clean and dry. During the first 24 hours, gently rinse with bottled or filtered water and pat dry. Avoid getting the area wet for seven days post-appointment. After that, we recommend wearing SPF during the day to stop any gradual lightening from occurring.
