Exclusive: Yami Gautam's Wedding Outfit Brought Together 3 Generations of Her Family

The actor wore her mother's vintage sari and grandmother's dupatta and jewellery for her wedding. She also had a sister style her hair. Brides Today shares the exclusive story behind her special look.

Actor Yami Gautam recently tied the knot with URI director Aditya Dhar in an intimate ceremony, surrounded by the couple's immediate family. A glimpse at Yami's wedding photos finds her transformed into a pretty, blushing bride, dressed in a traditional red outfit and jewellery. Her wedding ensemble itself is steeped in tradition and holds a special, heartwarming significance for Yami. It brings together three generations of her family, from her grandmother and mother to her sister and Yami herself. Brides Today shares the exclusive story and details of the actor's lovely wedding day look.

Let's begin with Yami's bridal outfit, shall we? The actor wore a traditional, vintage silk sari belonging to her mother, which dates back 33 years. The sari was of a vibrant maroon-red hue, embellished with intricate gold craftsmanship. It was draped over a floral-motif blouse, and overlayered with a gorgeous dupatta in a complementary shade of red. The dupatta itself was sent to Yami by her maternal grandmother, who couldn't be a part of the celebrations. In draping the dupatta over her head, Yami symbolically carried her grandmother's love and blessings with her as she took part in the wedding ceremony.

The actor wore heirloom jewellery to complete her ensemble. Her unique gold choker and striking maang tikka were complimented by a traditional Himachali Nath (nose ring) in the Pahaadi style of jewellery. This nose ring was a gift from her grandmother as well. On her wrists, she wore traditional kalire decorated with cowries and coconut.

Yami opted to do her own makeup, and she kept it simple and effective. A touch of red lipstick, kohl-rimmed eyes and a subtle sweep of blush create a resplendent, glowing and fuss-free bridal look. As for her hair, it was lovingly and painstakingly styled into place by Yami's sister Surilie Gautam.

A source close to Yami shares how the actor felt about her wedding.

"Yami truly made the prettiest bride," they wrote. "It (the wedding) was everything that Yami wished for, simple, intimate and radiating pure love. She always dreamt of having a very intimate wedding ceremony and it seems like that is exactly what she manifested. Due to the ongoing pandemic in the country, the couple decided to opt for a low-key wedding with only their respective families present on their special day."
