Your hair plays a significant role in defining your wedding guest style, and if you’re looking for the perfect way to elevate your wedding guest look, get inspired by Khushi Kapoor’s signature slicked-back bun.

In her recent appearance at the Dior SS24 show, Khushi Kapoor left a lasting impression in a classic white A-line dress. And her hair that truly stood out—a well-executed pulled-back bun that effortlessly added a touch of sophistication to her overall look, making it an ideal choice for special occasions.

Whether you’re attending a friend’s wedding, a family celebration or any special event, here’s your step-by-step guide on how to pull off the actor’s signature slicked-back bun effortlessly.

Prep your hair

Start with clean, dry hair—this forms the foundation for your picture-perfect look as it ensures your hair is at its absolute best for your big day. If you’re looking to add a little bit of shine to your hairdo, consider incorporating a shine-enhancing serum into your hair routine. It works wonders, lending a glossy shine to your locks and improving the overall look of your slicked-back bun.

Section your hair

Use a fine-toothed comb to create a clean centre part from your forehead to the nape of your neck as this would help you achieve a perfect symmetrical bun.

Create a low ponytail

Gather all your hair at the nape of your neck, keeping it smooth and flat against your head. Secure it with a hair tie to create a low ponytail. For added hold, apply a bit of hair spray or hair gel to the top and sides of your head, brushing the hair backwards. Then, use a comb or your fingers to smooth out any bumps or knots.

Twist and coil

Take your ponytail and twist it tightly in one direction until it starts to coil naturally. Continue twisting until your hair forms a tight bun shape. Keep the bun flat against your head to maintain the slicked-back appearance.

Secure the bun

Once the bun is formed, use bobby pins to secure it in place. Insert the pins in a criss-cross pattern to ensure a secure hold. Tuck any loose ends under the bun and secure them with additional bobby pins. Then, spritz your entire bun with a light-hold hair spray to set the style in place and also add some extra shine to your overall look.

Pro-tip: For added volume and texture, you can use a curling iron or flat iron to create subtle waves or curls in your ponytail before twisting it into a bun. Just be sure to apply heat protectant spray beforehand to protect your hair from damage.

Accessorise

To add a touch of tradition to your hairdo, consider accessorising your hairstyle with flowers, floral pins, traditional gold or silver hairpins or a maang tika. These pieces serve both as adornments and structural support, adding an element of tradition to your bun. We would recommend choosing accessories that match your outfit’s colour scheme and embellishments.
