Is your pre-bridal glow not quite apparent yet? Well, the possible reasons may include a lack of understanding about your skincare requirements, a wrong selection of skincare products, an unstructured, inconsistent skincare routine etc. Now, while it may be too late to rely on your kitchen ingredients for that gorgeous glow, these derm-approved skincare treatments certainly won't let you down.
'For healthy, glowing skin, brides and grooms must begin their skincare routine at least three months prior to their big day. If the skin is pigmented, or one suffers from acne, a six month treatment is advisable,' states Dr Jaishree Sharad, Celebrity Cosmetic Dermatologist.
Skincare treatments including chemical peels, microdermabrasion, dermal infusion, laser hair removal etc, should be performed by/under the supervision of well-trained professionals. Whereas, more advanced skincare treatments such as platelet-rich plasma, microneedling, skin resurfacing lasers, skin brightening lasers, and fillers, should exclusively be performed by qualified dermatologists. Dr Jaishree Sharad gives you the lowdown on the skin treatments you can opt for, for that radiant, bridal glow.
CHEMICAL PEELS
'Mild peels such as lactic, glycolic or kojic peels, done once in a fortnight, will result in an even skin-tone,' says Dr Jaishree Sharad. In this treatment, a chemical solution is applied to the skin, which makes it 'blister' and eventually peel off. The new skin is usually smoother and less-wrinkled than the old skin.
MICRODERMABRASION
Microdermabrasion is a gentle exfoliation procedure using either crystals or diamond polishing. It gets rid of the top layer of the skin that tends to be tanned or damaged, and helps products or treatments penetrate better. A few sessions of this will help you get rid of dead skin, dirt, grime, and unwanted tan.
LASER HAIR REMOVAL
Laser hair removal is a great alternative to waxing and shaving, when it comes to getting rid of body hair. Post 8-10 sessions, your entire body will feel soft and smooth. However, if you suffer from a hormonal imbalance, its best to start 8 to 10 months before your wedding. This treatment is a great way to bid adieu to unwanted facial hair as well!
Q SWITCHED ND YAG LASER
Q-switching refers to the technique of making the laser produce a high-intensity beam in very short pulses. These lasers work by emitting a wavelength of high energy light, which when focused on a certain skin condition, will create heat and destroy diseased cells. This treatment is recommended for brides or grooms with deep pigmentation problems. One must start this procedure at least 6 months before the wedding.
PLATELET-RICH PLASMA
Platelet-rich plasma or vampire facial is recommended for brides over 30 years of age. It stimulates collagen production, tightens pores, and reduces fine lines. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy uses injections of a concentration of a patient's own platelets to accelerate the healing of injured tendons, ligaments, muscles and joints.
MICRONEEDLING
Microneedling is a dermaroller procedure that uses small needles to prick the skin, with the purpose of generating new collagen and skin tissue for smoother, firmer, more toned skin. Microneedling with dermapen can be performed to get rid of post-acne scars, uneven skin texture, and dull skin!
SILKPEEL DERMAL INFUSION FACIAL
Silkpeel Dermal Infusion facial involves a combination of non-invasive exfoliation, lypmatic drainage, and infusion of skin-specific topical solutions such as hyaluronic acid, vitamin C etc, to improve and revitalize the skin. Lymphatic drainage is extremely beneficial for people with puffy eyes or water-retention on the face. 'This safe and painless treatment is one of the most popular non-laser treatments for brides and grooms,' claims Dr Jaishree.
PHOTOREJUVENATION
Most popularly known as laser facial or photofacial, this treatment makes use of the Nd YAG laser, the fractional erbium glass laser or IPL (intense pulse light), to give the skin an instant glow, as well as tighten open pores. It also improves the skin's texture through collagen stimulation. 'I would recommend that you go for a photofacial at least a month before your D-day, to make sure that it suits your skin. Afterwards, you could always repeat the treatment right before your wedding,' advises Dr Jaishree.
SKIN BOOSTERS
These boosters are collagen shots which are given to the skin, thus stimulating collagen production in the skin. Profhilo and Volite are two such injections you must keep a lookout for. This treatment mustn't be confused with botox or fillers.
FILLERS
If you have tired, sunken eyes, that give your face a haggard appearance, its better to opt for hyaluronic acid fillers. Additionally, if you are above 21 years of age and have very thin lips, this safe and US FDA approved treatment will work wonders for you. The only trick is to keep it subtle and natural, and a well trained cosmetic dermatologist with an aesthetic eye will do just that!
