Flawless, healthy skin is the dream that most of us aspire to. While much of the hard work comes from eating right and opting for the right skincare regime, makeup does play an important role in your derma dreams come true.
With all eyes on you on your wedding, you need to be armed with the makeup products best-suited for your skin tone as well as the expert tricks to make the process easier and quicker! So, we spoke to one of the go-to bridal makeup artists, Kapil Chauhan of Makeup Reaction Studio whose social media page is rife with beaming, flawless brides.
Brides Today: What is your favourite foundation when it comes to bridal makeup?
Kapil Chauhan: I don't have one but two go-to favourite foundations. They both are different in their powers but always get the job done. The first would be MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation that also has some SPF in it. It gives great full coverage on the face with a matte finish that lasts more than 8 hours. The shades are just right for the Indian complexion.

My second favourite is the NARS Sheer Glow Foundation. This sheer buildable formulation gives a great natural-looking finish that immaculately evens out the skin tone and leaving it perfectly hydrated. It is also very long-lasting, staying in place for more than 8 hours.

BT: What is the best way to pick out a foundation closest to our skin tone?
KC: I believe there are three steps you need to follow to find the perfect shade.
Firstly, you need to work out whether your skin has warm, pinkish tones or cool, yellow ones. Once you have figured that out, select a few shades of foundation and apply a small amount of each product to your jawline. Then, see your foundation in natural daylight to find out if it's a perfect match.

Secondly, you need to make sure that the foundation blends well into your neck too. Once you’ve narrowed down on the colour closest to your tone, apply it on half of your face and see the difference. If you like what you see, you have found a winner!
Thirdly, it’s best to let a foundation sit on your skin for at least a few hours before narrowing down on a shade or product. The foundation oxidises and can, therefore, change colour in some time. So, it's best to use a sample to also check the staying power of a foundation.
BT: What are 3 must-have beauty products that are always in your vanity bag when doing bridal makeup?
KC: I never leave without MAC Smolder that is great to intensify the eyes and highlight the shape. It is a must-have for Indian brides because not only can you smudge it to create a smokey look, it is really long-lasting and blends well with the eyeshadow.

Liquid lipsticks are another must-have in my bridal vanity bad. They are more pigmented, easier to apply and long-lasting as compared to regular lipsticks. My usual brands for these lipsticks are MAC Retro Matte, Smashbox, Colorbar and Huda beauty.
Lastly, MAC Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation. It is literally the best thing ever for touchups and gives amazing coverage with great staying power. Bonus, it is also available in more than 56 shades!
