Bridal radiance rituals: The best home-made masks for glowing skin

Between full-glam makeup, touch-ups through the day, less sleep, and more caffeine to power through multiple events, even the staunchest skincare routine can falter. Not to worry: often, the most effective and pampering skincare ingredients are hiding in your kitchen. So, take a leaf from our mothers and grandmothers, as generations of Indian women have shared their wisdom with one another. Here are some indulgent options that are both impactful and easy to concoct.

The radiance tip  

A teaspoon of turmeric, a spoon of sandalwood powder, and a drizzle of honey, mixed with rosewater, is the OG glow treatment. Turmeric brightens, sandalwood soothes, and honey locks in moisture, making it Mother Nature’s version of a ten-minute facial.

The hydration fix 

Blend a spoon of aloe vera with creamy curd. The soothing and cooling properties of both combine to create a rich mask that softens skin and quenches dryness.

The detox classic  

One of the best traditional remedies for tiredness: mix multani mitti (fuller’s earth) with rosewater to create a thick paste that acts as an instant pick-me-up, decongests pores, and calms inflammation.

The glow secret  

Steep a few strands of saffron in coconut or almond oil overnight. Massage a few drops into your skin before bed for that golden luminosity that feels and smells divine.  

Pro tip: Put cucumber slices on your eyes whilst the mask absorbs into your skin. Sip a cup of green tea, take deep breaths and give your skin (and yourself) a chance to just be. Some of the masks can also be a little drying, so after removing them, remember to spritz some rose water and apply a moisturiser that’s best suited to your skin type.
