Weddings have a funny way of putting your face front and centre—pre-wedding functions, endless photographs, and that one close-up shot that somehow lives forever. And while brides have long mastered the art of skin prep, grooms are finally realising that good skin isn’t about vanity, it’s about looking rested, confident, and the best version of yourself on a day that matters.
The good news? You don’t need a 12-step routine or shelves full of products. A groom's skincare routine is about consistency, not complication. Think clean skin, proper hydration, and a few smart habits started early enough to actually show results. Whether you are three months away or three weeks away, this step-by-step routine will help you build a solid skincare foundation, minus the overwhelm.
Step 1: Cleanse daily

If you are only using a regular soap bar and splashing water on your face, it’s time to upgrade. A gentle cleanser removes sweat, pollution, oil buildup, and leftover sunscreen—things that can clog pores and dull your skin over time. Cleanse once in the morning to start fresh, and once at night to undo the day. Avoid harsh soaps; your face isn’t the same as the rest of your body.
Step 2: Exfoliate

Exfoliation helps get rid of dead skin cells that can make your face look tired and uneven. It also prevents ingrown hair, and it is especially important if you shave regularly. Stick to exfoliating two to three times a week, not daily. Over-exfoliating can irritate your skin and cause breakouts, which is exactly what you don’t want close to the wedding.
Step 3: Moisturise

Moisturiser is non-negotiable, even if you have oily skin. Skipping it can actually make your skin produce more oil to compensate. A lightweight, non-greasy moisturiser keeps your skin balanced, smooth, and healthy. Use it right after cleansing, when your skin is still slightly damp, to lock in the hydration.
Step 4: Make sunscreen your best friend

Sun damage shows up as tanning, pigmentation, fine lines, and uneven texture, and it’s much harder to reverse than prevent. A broad-spectrum sunscreen worn every morning (even on cloudy days) protects your skin and keeps it looking even-toned. Think of it as skincare insurance, especially if you are outdoors for pre-wedding events.
Step 5: Eye care

Dark circles, puffiness, and tired eyes tend to show up first when you are stressed or sleep-deprived, which, let’s be honest, happens during wedding prep. An eye cream or gel helps hydrate the under-eye area and makes you look more awake in real life and in photos. A small amount goes a long way.
Step 6: Shave smart, not aggressively

Shaving can irritate your skin if done carelessly. Always shave on clean, softened skin, preferably after a shower. Use a sharp razor and a soothing shaving cream or gel, and finish with a calming, alcohol-free after-shave or moisturiser. If you are growing a beard for the wedding, keep it trimmed and moisturised for a neat, intentional look.
Step 7: Consistency is key
Skincare isn’t magic; it works best when you give it time. Ideally, start this routine at least two to three months before the wedding. Consistency will improve texture, reduce breakouts, and give you that healthy, rested glow without needing last-minute fixes or panic facials.
For all the grooms-to-be, good skin is not about changing how you look, but it is about showing up looking fresh, confident, and comfortable in your own skin. And on your wedding day, that kind of ease shows.
