RAS LUXURY OILS — Shubhika Jain, Founder
After prospering in the family business of essential oils in 2015, founder Shubhika Jain began developing formulas for her own brand and started working on a farm-to-bottle approach. Soon enough, RAS Luxury Oils was born. “Using plant-based
ingredients, we ensured the manufacturing process worked in small batches to deliver quality-controlled products. Ten per cent of the profits go to local NGOs to support the growth of the girl child and for the welfare of animals,” says Jain. Vegan, cruelty-free, preservative-free, and paraben-free are some of the terms used to describe the brand.
JUST HERBS — Arush Chopra, CEO & Founder
Just Herbs was launched in November 2013 to bring safe and effective products to the Indian consumer, and to burst a few myths along the way. “We have long used ingredients such as turmeric and chickpea flour for skincare and perceive them as safer alternatives to chemically-laden cosmetics. However, it is a common perception that while natural stuff is safe, it is often too mild to work. So, you are compelled to turn to a chemically-driven product. We are here to change that,” says Chopra. Just Herbs products are between 98 per cent to 100 per cent natural.
NEEMLI — Bhaskara Pratap Seth, Co-founder
Founded by former actor Rameshwari Talluri Seth at a farmhouse in Maharashtra, Neemli first faced consumers at a flea market in Goa. “Each product was handmade at our workshop in Karjat and great customer responses kept pouring in,” says Seth. To create scientifically-proven products, Neemli shut shop for eight months. It came back with a bang and now is available on BathItup.in.
SUPER SMELLY — Dipali Mathur Dayal, Co-founder
Targeted at a young audience, Super Smelly is a 100 per cent toxin-free brand, born after Dayal and her husband started label reading while shopping for their teenager. “The products contain naturally derived ingredients packed in fun packaging that young adults across the country would love,” says Dayal.
PLUM GOODNESS — Shankar Prasad, Director
In 2013, Prasad came up with the concept of Plum Goodness—a brand that was to promote goodness at multiple levels— ingredients, values, and its impact on the environment. “We are PETA-certified and cruelty-free, and we donate to 1% For The Planet,” says Prasad who feels cleansing is the first step to great bridal skin. “Don’t overdo it or under-do it,” he cautions.
RUBY’S ORGANICS — Rubeina Karachiwala, Founder
The creation of her clean makeup line was a four-year process for former public relations professional Rubeina Karachiwala. “I love makeup but I used to react very badly to it. And so I researched a lot to come up with a locally-sourced, sustainable, and responsible beauty line. Our ingredients are fresh and the manufacturing unit in Gujarat employs women from the local village of Umbergaon,” she says, adding, “Good skincare is almost directly a result of our eating habits.”
