Nadia From Indian Matchmaking on Relationships, Being Strong and Successful and the Proposals She's Been Receiving on Social Media!

In an exclusive interview for Brides Today, fan favourite Nadia Christina Jagessar of Indian Matchmaking fame sheds light on the connections she developed on the show, her take on what constitutes an 'ideal relationship' and living through a pandemic.

It wasn't long after the premiere of this Netflix reality show that  Indian Matchmaking fast-became a lockdown hit. From matchmaker Sima Taparia's contentious statements that gave way to a dozen memes to the self-reliant, 'I-do-me and I'm not apologetic for it' women, this series certainly had much to offer.

And, without a shadow of doubt, one of the most well-liked, impressive faces on the show was Nadia Jagessar, an event planner and passionate dancer who hails from New Jersey.

Right off the bat, she was proclaimed as the ideal 'girl-next-door', leaving many to wonder why she needed to undergo the matchmaking process at all! Independent and successful with a cheerful disposition, viewers were certain Nadia would walk away with the perfect match. However, were bummed when things didn't work out with neither Vinay nor Shekar.

But hold on, this girl doesn't need a man to shine!

In this exclusive interview, we catch up with Nadia on her current relationship status, life post the hit show and a lot more...

How and why did you decide to do the show?

Nadia:  I found out about the show through my dance company but ultimately decided to participate in the hope of finding love. I have tried almost every other way of dating/trying to find a significant other, but had never worked with a matchmaker before. So, it was an opportunity I could not pass.

What did you think of Sima Taparia's matchmaking process and what would you do differently if you were in her place?

Nadia:  I had a great experience working with Sima Aunty; she and I got along really well. I think she takes the time to get to know her clients. The only thing I would do differently if I was in her place would be to screen a little further on criteria such as social drinking and eating meat.

Are you still in touch with your castmates?

Nadia:  I am still in touch with some of my castmates. I definitely get along with Shekar the most but have recently found many mutual connections with Dilip as well.

The viewers seemed to have loved the rapport and instant connection you developed with Shekar. Why did things not work out with him?

Nadia:  Unfortunately, 'our stars did not align' and it's very difficult to begin a relationship being in long distance. We still remain good friends and talk frequently, but it's tough being in two different cities (plus a pandemic!)

In your introductory scene you mentioned that strong and successful women sometimes intimidate men. Could you share your thoughts on the same?

Nadia:  I can't speak for others, but in my experience men can feel emasculated if they are not confident enough to be with a woman who makes more money than them, or one who runs her own business. I'm also a strong personality and I am not afraid to share my thoughts and opinions; I don't shy away from that.

Have you spoken to Vinay and got some closure on what exactly happened?

Nadia:  I have not spoken to Vinay since the day I told him I did not want to continue dating. Prior to the release of the show, he had almost a year to share what exactly happened, but he chose not to. In that time, I have moved forward and cannot let it hold me back.

You come across as a confident, independent woman who lives life on her own terms. What would you like to say to the women who are afraid to do so?

Nadia:  It's not always easy because people may not be comfortable with your decisions or your opinions. I do want a family of my own, but I also know that will happen when it's right for me. I try to live my best life each day because you can't make everyone else happy, but you CAN control your own happiness.

What has life been like post Indian matchmaking? Any interesting projects lined up?

Nadia:  Life post Indian Matchmaking has been an exciting roller-coaster ride! I love all the stories viewers have shared with me; it's so touching. I have a few projects in the works, stay tuned!

Do you think the idea of an 'ideal relationship' exists? What is your take on relationships from your stint on the show?

Nadia:  In this case, if 'ideal' means 'perfect', then no, I don't think it exists. No relationship is perfect or ideal, but I think there can be relationships that are ideal for each person. Relationships will always have ups and downs but it's about how you get through those that can make it more ideal. My take on relationships from my stint on the show is not much different than my take in real life; you're not going to get along with every person you date and that's okay. For me, I try to learn about myself, learn about what I'm looking for in a partner, and apply that to my continued search.

Describe yourself in just 3 words.

Nadia:  Outgoing. Dynamic. Real.

Are you dating anyone at the moment?

Nadia:  We're living amidst a global pandemic...it is almost impossible to date!

How are you spending your time during the pandemic?

Nadia:  I have been working! I did have a few weddings amid COVID-19, but aside from that I still maintain my usual Monday-Friday job at a fragrance and flavors house. It has been keeping me sane during this crazy year. I am very grateful.

A piece of advice for those who are looking to try the 'matchmaking thing' or are having an arranged marriage.

Nadia:  Matchmaking is definitely a great option for anyone, but you should try to go into the experience as open-minded as possible. Matchmaking is not easy from the matchmaker's side and it's also not magic. Keep an open mind and be ready to put in the work.

Have you received any proposals post the show, maybe through social media? Are you planning to consider any of them?

Nadia:  I have definitely received proposals via social media; my mom has received proposals for me as well! At this point in time, I'm not considering them.

Lastly, what is that one piece of relationship advice you swear by and would like to share with our readers?

Nadia:  I have not had many successful relationships, but in terms of dating there are a few things I will share. I go in to dates with low expectations because I cannot expect someone to put in the same amount of excitement, trust, or commitment as I do, right off the bat. A book that has changed the way I view dating was,It's Just a F*cking Date. Lots of great tips in there!
