Jewels to love and cherish

Nine of the country's biggest jewellery houses invited Brides Today into their ateliers for a look at their favourite pieces.

Jewellery is an investment—the right pieces can become an invaluable asset and be passed down generations as beloved heirlooms. Below, nine jewellery brands from across the country tell us about their favourites.

Abhishek Rastogi, Head of Design, jewellery division of Titan Company

“Handcrafted in 22-carat gold for the film Padmaavat, the ‘Goddess necklace’ takes inspiration from Rajasthani royal jewellery.

There are five, beautiful miniature paintings in the medallions, each an incarnation of Devi as Shakti. We wanted to create something that conveys her [Deepika Padukone's] spirit of character in the film. This piece sits very well on the neck, due to its fabric-like flexibility, and is perfect for the modern bride eager to make a statement.”

Sangeeta Boochra, Founder Sangeeta Boochra

“This statement necklace is made with Basra pearls, gold beads from Aligarh, and a Rajasthani-style pendant called mandaliya (worn by the men and women of local tribes). It also features kundan-diamond polki and Afghani turquoise in Bikaneri work, set in 22-carat gold. The peacock motif on this piece symbolises peace and wealth...and the tassel has been handwoven from silk thread.”

Renu Oberoi, Founder Renu Oberoi

“One of my favourite pieces is this cuff made with bright-red rubies, lined alternately with rows of brilliant cut, round diamonds in 18-carat white gold. These beads were left from the back of some strands I had purchased earlier, and it bothered me that such lovely pieces were just lying around. I decided to use them like precious stones, and ended up with this beautiful design."

Ishu Datwani, Founder, ANMOL

“These striking earrings have been crafted with rose-cut diamonds and round, brilliant diamonds in the Baroque style. What makes them unique is the intricate craftsmanship that accentuates the classic, European inspired design. They make a statement, which traces back to the imperial legacy.”

Sonu Jain, Owner, Suncity Jewels

“Russian emeralds, uncut diamonds, and natural pearls make this heritage necklace and earrings set truly unique. I consider the design stunning, and it can be worn to almost every occasion, with both Indian outfits as well as Indo-western styles. One thing is certain...it is sure to get you compliments.”

Yash Agarwal, Partner and Creative Director, Birdhichand Ghanshyamdas Jaipur

“It took us almost two years to craft this marvellous Begum necklace, carved in 18-carat white gold, and centred by a 100-carat Columbian emerald of remarkable transparency and purity. The diamond and ruby interlinks have been meticulously carved, and the diamond briolettes add to its grandeur.”

Bhavin Jakhia, Director, Om Jewellers

“This striking cuff was made keeping the red carpet in mind, set in 18-carat white gold with rare and responsibly-sourced Forevermark diamonds. I like that it is a versatile design, and complements both Indian and western silhouettes. This piece would be best accessorised with just a pair of chandelier or diamond drop earrings... Simplicity is beauty.”

Manushi Singh, Director, Rare Heritage

“This multi-layered necklace has been crafted with uncut diamonds and rubies, each individually sculpted to suit the design, and set in 24-carat gold. I would imagine this to be ideal for someone who'd like to waltz down the Hall of Mirrors in the Palace of Versailles, wearing a multi-layered couture dress, and this piece.”
