If you haven’t yet noticed, chikankari is having something of a moment. The classic embroidery technique rooted in the craftsmanship and design traditions of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, is increasingly finding favour among new-age brides looking for versatile yet ethereal looks for their big day. Chikankari lends itself well to light, pastel shades—it is even more apt given that the pastel bride look is here to stay. As brides move away from adorning bright red and pink hues on their big day, they are slowly gravitating towards softer shades and a less-is-more approach.
From pretty blush hues to elegant ivories and cheery shades of yellow, we’ve rounded up these celeb-approved looks to help with your wedding mood board if you’re planning to wear a chikankari ensemble.
The classic white or ivory look
We love an all-white look and these brides make a case for wearing hues of the shade on your big day. Take inspiration from chef-entrepreneur Raveena Taurani, daughter of film producer Ramesh Taurani, and actor Richa Chadha, who opted for ivory-hued ensembles for their big day.
We also love this ivory lehenga by couturier Manish Malhotra adorned by Malaika Arora.
Pastel hues for the win
Kiara Advani served plenty of inspiration with her cheery mehendi ensemble. She wore custom Manish Malhotra with a white chikankari lehenga skirt, a beaded pearl blouse and a golden-yellow dupatta for that pop of colour.
Bollywood actor, Athiya Shetty, stunned in a custom Anamika Khanna lehenga in a shade of old rose for her pheras and also adorned a traditional Anjul Bhandari chikankari lehenga in soft lemon yellow for one of her wedding functions.
Experts debunk a host of regimens you always thought were perfect.
