Love conquers all

The old adage, love is blind, certainly holds true with these celebrity couples. They’ve shown us time and again that as long as you love each other and are there for each other, things like a big age gap are redundant. Since we take inspiration from celebs for everything under the sun, there are several  of them with a significant age difference. That’s never mattered to us. In fact, it’s only made us love them more.

Here’s a list of 10 celeb couples who have proved that age is just a number when it comes to happily ever after.

Hollywood Couples

George Clooney and Amal Clooney: 17 years

It’s amazing what a dinner party hosted by a mutual friend can do. Well, that’s exactly what happened in 2013 when George Clooney—one of the world’s most eligible bachelors met human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin (they were 52 and 35 respectively, back then). There was no turning back for the two and they tied the knot in a beautiful Venetian wedding within a year of dating. The couple have two children, twins Ella and Alexander.

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds: 11 years

The pair met on the sets of the movie Green Lantern back in 2010 when Lively was 22 and Reynolds was 33. They’ve been married for 11 years and are proud parents to three daughters and reportedly have just welcomed their fourth child. With their never-ending banter on social media, it’s no surprise that this pair truly defines couple goals.

Jay-Z and Beyoncé: 12 years

2001—that’s how long Jay-Z and Beyoncé go back. This power couple started dating when the former was 32 and the latter was just 20. They tied the knot seven years later in a private and intimate ceremony on April 4, 2008, and gave birth to their daughter Blue Ivy Carter in 2012. The dazzling diva had one of the most-liked posts of the year on Instagram back in 2017 as she announced that she’s pregnant with twins. Rum and Sir were born in June the same year.

Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Nick Jonas: 10 years

The then 26-year-old singer and 36-year-old actress made their first public appearance together in 2017—a year before they reportedly began dating. According to an interview given to television show host Jimmy Kimmel, Chopra had revealed that she and Jonas had decided to attend the Met Gala together as they were both wearing the same designer, Ralph Lauren (we got to thank these guys for hitching the two). A few months later, Jonas decided to put a ring on it with their engagement in July 2018. The pair got married later that December in what was a lavish, multi-cultural affair—with two weddings and multiple ceremonies at the Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur.

The couple delighted fans across the world in 2022, announcing the arrival of their baby via surrogacy. They announced the arrival of their child—a girl named Malti Marie—on Instagram on January 23, 2022.

Michael Douglas & Catherine Zeta-Jones: 25 years

You know what’s common between the two? Their birth date, September 25. And compared to other couples on this list, their age gap goes way  beyond the twenty year mark—25 to be exact. The Deauville Film Festival in 1996 is an event neither of them will forget as that’s where they first met. Douglas proposed in 1999, a month after he confirmed rumors that Zeta-Jones was pregnant. The actress gave birth to son Dylan in August of 1999, and the two got married in November 2000. Despite the two separating for a short period in 2013, they realised how much they love each other and soon got back together.

Bollywood Couples

Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor: 10 years

Here’s a bit of trivia for you: Kapoor was Bhatt’s first love as she coyly revealed in interviews  that she started liking the actor when she was just 11. That was when she had auditioned for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s masterpiece, Black, in the year 2005 and met Kapoor on set, who was working as an assistant director. Love struck many years later when the two on were seated next to each other on a flight to Tel Aviv, Israel, to attend a workshop for Brahmastra . The two tied the knot in an intimate ceremony on April 14 last year and welcomed their baby girl Raha on November 6.

Kareena Kapoor Khan and Saif Ali Khan: 10 years

Saif Ali Khan was married to actress Amrita Singh for 13 years, before calling it quits in 2004. The couple tied the knot in 1991 and had a 12-year age gap (Singh being older). They have two children together, Sara Ali Khan and Ibrahim Ali Khan. Later, Khan started dating Kapoor in 2007 and got married five years later. They have been blissfully married for 10 years and have two adorable kids, Taimur and Jeh.

Dilip Kumar and Saira Banu: 22 years

These two were inarguably the most adored couple in Bollywood who were, and will remain evergreen in our hearts. The year 1966 was an absolute treat for cinephiles as Hindi cinema’s tragedy king Dilip Kumar got married to the beautiful actress Saira Banu when he was 44 and the actress was just 22 (do the math for the age gap). The couple went on to celebrate their golden jubilee and spent 55 years with each other till the legend’s demise on July 7, 2021. While one remembers how the two were a pillar of support for each other, we absolutely adore how Banu took care of the ailing actor right till his last breath, giving  fans constant updates on social media. A love story for all generations indeed.

Dharmendra and Hema Malini: 13 years

The actor was already married to Prakash Kaur when he fell in love with his co-star Hema Malini, 13 years his junior, on the sets of Tum Haseen Main Jawan in 1970. In 1980, he finally decided to tie the knot with the nation’s Dream Girl and converted to Islam to stay married to his first wife, with whom he has four kids—sons, Sunny and Bobby, and daughters Vijeta and Ajeita. Dharmendra’s two other daughters Esha and Ahana are with Hema Malini.

Shahid Kapoor and Mira Rajput: 13 years
