Some love stories unfold quickly, but Sarah D'Souza and Vikram Baid's took shape over nearly a decade. The couple first met while studying at UC Berkeley, where a five-hour first date laid the foundation for what would become a lasting partnership. Over the years, their relationship grew alongside new cities, careers, and milestones. From Berkeley and San Francisco to New York and Chicago, they built a life together that was rooted in friendship, mutual respect, and a shared sense of adventure.

The pandemic became an especially meaningful chapter in their story. As the world slowed down, their families became a bigger part of each other's lives. D'Souza grew close to Baid's family, while he became part of hers in Mumbai. By the time Baid proposed on the cliffs of Positano in July 2024, the next step already felt like a natural continuation of everything they had built together by then.

Their wedding reflected that same sense of togetherness. Bringing together her Mangalorean Christian heritage and his Marwari Jain roots, the celebrations were designed to honour both families while remaining deeply personal to the couple. Set across Taj Lake Palace, Taj Fateh Prakash Palace, and Jagmandir Island Palace in Udaipur, the festivities were grand yet intimate.

The celebrations began with a combined haldi and Roce ceremony, bringing together traditions from both cultures in a vibrant, sunlit setting. Pastel tones, floral installations, and playful details set the mood as turmeric and coconut milk rituals took place side by side.

The sangeet followed with a completely different energy. Inspired by a royal darbar, the venue was transformed with dramatic drapes, chandeliers, and rich detailing. Family performances, storytelling, and plenty of dancing kept the celebrations going late into the evening, with one of the standout moments being a surprise performance by Baid for his bride.

The Hindu wedding took place at the Lily Pond at Taj Lake Palace, one of Udaipur's most iconic settings. Guests watched as Baid arrived in style on a traditional Gangaur boat, creating a memorable start to the ceremony. The celebrations were filled with emotional and joyful moments, from D'Souza's chadar entry to the playful chaos of the joota chupai. Red roses and stained-glass-inspired details added to the timeless, romantic atmosphere.

Later that day, the mood shifted for the Christian wedding and reception at Jagmandir Island Palace. Set against the lake, the ceremony felt softer and more intimate. Thoughtful personal touches appeared throughout the evening, including handwritten notes placed for every guest. Small moments, including an especially heartwarming ring bearer appearance, made the celebration feel uniquely theirs.

The celebration ended with a festival-inspired after party. Concert-style production, high-energy music, and fun additions such as a late-night Maggi station kept guests on the dance floor well into the night.

Throughout the celebrations, it was the personal details that stood out most. Guests were welcomed with a custom wedding newspaper and fortune cookies, while installations chronicling the couple's journey brought their story to life. From a post-ceremony boat exit to a seating chart that revealed a hidden photograph when fully uncovered, every element felt considered.

After nine years together, D'Souza and Baid's wedding wasn't simply a celebration of a marriage. It was a reflection of the life they had already built together and the many chapters still waiting to be written.
