This couple brought Indian and Italian traditions together for a five-day wedding in Sydney
The celebrations blended traditional Indian ceremonies, Italian influences, choreographed performances, and a reception inspired by a romantic night under the stars.
Jamie and Resham’s wedding was a celebration of two cultures coming together. Jamie, who is Italian, and Resham, who is Indian, met at work and are now based in Melbourne. Their families, who are settled in Sydney, hosted a five-day celebration that brought together almost 400 guests for a series of ceremonies, parties, and personal moments. With Indian traditions at the heart of the festivities and Jamie’s Italian heritage woven into the celebrations, the wedding reflected both their backgrounds.
The festivities began with a welcome dinner and mehendi, followed by a combined pooja and haldi, and a sangeet, before finally being followed by the wedding ceremonies and a reception. Rather than keeping the two cultures separate, the couple found ways to bring them together throughout the celebrations. Resham’s heritage came through in the haldi, pheras, and traditional Indian wedding ceremony, while Jamie’s Italian roots were honoured through a vows exchange. The couple also celebrated with a white wedding and reception, making the occasion a reflection of their shared life.
The sangeet brought a burst of colour and energy to the celebrations. Dark teal, orange, and deep red transformed the space, creating a setting inspired by the grandeur of an Indian palace. Friends and family took to the floor for choreographed performances, filling the evening with music, dance, and plenty of laughter and cheering.
The haldi was equally lively, with fuchsia, yellow, and orange setting the tone. Drummers and firebreathers added to the festivities, while a rickshaw photo booth gave guests another way to join in. One of the most memorable moments came when Jamie fully embraced the Indian ritual, including the tradition of having his clothes torn during the ceremony. Around 70 close friends and family members attended the intimate celebration.
For the wedding ceremony, peach tones inspired by Resham’s outfit shaped the mandap decor. Jamie made a grand entrance on horseback, while Resham arrived beneath a canopy carried by her male relatives. The traditional pheras brought the Indian ceremony to its close, while the vows exchange honoured Jamie’s side of the family and their Italian heritage.
The reception brought both worlds together once again. Roman statues introduced an Italian-inspired touch, while Indian cuisine and a twinkling garden setting created a celebratory atmosphere. The decor also drew inspiration from Jamie’s proposal under the stars. Adding a personal note to the evening, both fathers sang tributes to the couple, bringing together family, music, and emotion.
After five days of celebrations, Jamie and Resham were photographed at the Sydney Opera House, marking the end of a wedding that brought their families and traditions together. Their celebration showed how a multicultural wedding can make room for different customs while creating a shared story of its own.
